Reality capture WON'T BELONG to surveyors anymore.
Yet, we will probably need MORE surveyors than ever.
The experience from last week at INTERGEO Expo and Conference made me believe:
The reality capture market will accelerate rapidly in the next few years.
There were 45! SLAM companies. (Thanks Jón Bergmann Heimisson for counting 👏 )
Several offering scanners at a price tag as low as a few thousand euros.
That changes the market.
More scanners.
More users.
More data.
and many more cases, where "survey-grade" accuracy won't matter.
------------------------
But here is a paradox!
------------------------
As reality capture becomes cheaper and easier, it will also enter more projects where accuracy DOES matter.
So surveyors may become a smaller percentage of the reality capture market...
while the absolute demand for surveyors still grows.
Reality capture is becoming much bigger than surveying.
That doesn't make surveyors less important.
It makes their role more specialized and kind of a niche.
CLX is cheaper than you think...
3DGS is not on the road map...
They had to add one Lidar because...
It was a big pleasure to speak to Michael Schoelkopf, Product Director at @NavVisOfficial about their new CLX scanner.

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW!
@LeicaGeosystems just announced a 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of their flagship 𝗥𝗧𝗖𝟯𝟲𝟬.
And it is not only one, but 3 devices.
RTC300
RTC500
RTC700
They are all focused on different markets, from Scan-to-BIM projects ideal for RTC300 up to complicated industrial and civil engineering structures with RTC700.
The biggest change is not only in HW.
The whole pipeline is going towards real-time collaboration, not only on-site, but also through the cloud with personnel in the office.
Just imagine the possibility of doing the registration while your colleague is still onsite, still scanning.
A lot more news to this one. Stay tuned!
Good luck, guys from Leica!
Can't wait to put my hands on it!
