There's a tradition of film directors and studios congratulating each other for beating their box office records. A THREAD In 1977, when STAR WARS beat Jaws to become the highest-grossing movie ever, Steven Spielberg took out the below ad for George Lucas in @Variety 1/11

40 minutes on hold to @OPGGovUK today only to be randomly cut off when I was number 3 in the queue (started off on 29!). This isn't the first time this has happened 🙄 Any other solicitors experiencing this? #lpa #privateclient #opg

I love this! : Leolin Price QC opening an appeal: “This case concerns the law of contract: offer, acceptance and consideration.” Lord Widgery: “I think you can take it we understand the basics.” Price QC: “I made that mistake in the court below, my lord.” – at Dewsbury, England

When white southerners of a certain age discover I teach history, they’re quick to tell me how their family didn’t believe in segregation. Based on these interactions over 20 yrs, I can now conclude that segregation in the South was enforced by three guys and a basset hound. – at Memphis, TN

My 8yo daughter met a girl at summer camp last year named "Internet." I said no way, that can't be her name but my daughter has been adamant. For almost a year we've been having this discussion. ANTOINETTE. I just found out her name is Antoinette.

Answering a question "I don't know" –weak answer –embarrassing –makes you look bad Saying "Such questions cannot be answered" –strong, confident answer –mysterious –makes you seem incredibly wise knowledgeable, and perceptive

I am unsurprised that someone from Mumford & Sons who I had hitherto not heard of turned out to be a dick – at Oadby, England

I occasionally wind up my girlfriend that she's a massive Mumford & Sons fan (she's not) because she was in a band which shared the bill with them at a couple of festivals many moons ago. I feel I can no longer use this material. – at Oadby, England
