American election day, although here in the UK it's Guy Fawkes Day, Which is a different sort of political occasion. This morning before I got out bed I decided to start watercolour sketches of the two main candidates. Having now run out of time with both sketches incomplete
I work in a secondhand bookshop in Ramsgate and I wanted to draw something that would express how I feel about this. Comment and criticism is welcome.
Freehand pen drawing of prime minister Keir Starmer #KeirStarmer
Pencil and watercolour sketch of Keir Starmer #KierStarmer
Freehand A4 pen sketch of author Stephen King, for me as a bookseller Stephen King is a best-selling phenomena that certainly makes me a number one fan. Getting a likeness of a person in a freehand pen sketch is difficult, I do a lot of watching interview video clips #stephenking
This morning an A5 watercolor based on the 1932 photo by Heni Cartier Bresson. I am very interested in sketching people looking down on them as I often sketch from the upstairs windows of various cafes. I find this much more difficult than you would expect. #henricartierbresson
Today's freehand A4 pen sketch is after a posthumous drawing of Hieronymous Bosch by Jacques Le Boucq. Also of course with the influence of the large figure in the garden of earthly delights which is supposed to be a self-portrait of Heronymous Bosch.
This A4 freehand pen sketch of Johnny Rotten is really the only successful drawing of the series of punk drawings I did yesterday and this morning while my bookshop was closed. The other punk drawing failures are all on my main Facebook profile #johnnyrotten
I'm not quite sure what's going on here with this morning's A4 Pen sketch. With portraits I'm still in the maze where I know that more like a photograph isn't necessarily better. Comment is welcome I couldn't even think of a title what do you think?
A4 Pen sketch this morning. Not a very good likeness but surprisingly Google lens was convinced. I usually use Google lens to identify other people's pictures before I like or comment but I have just started looking at what it makes of my freehand sketches, it's an education.
Grace Jones freehand A5 pen sketch this morning, loosely based on a photo by Helmut Newton - Grace Jones And Dolph Lundgren, 1985. Comment is welcome, anything you think I can do to improve the likeness? #gracejones
Two different A4 watercolor sketches this morning. I'm trying out different styles and don't think I've quite developed the style I want. I'm interested in opinions about these two sketches. So what do you think?
Watercolour sketch of Jimi Hendrix A4 all painted in ivory black watercolor brush size is zero and four. So often happens this second attempt painting a likeness of Jimi Hendrix isn't as good as my first attempt posted 4th. There are a couple of progress pics Facebook profile
A4 watercolour sketch my first attempt at Jimmy Hendrix I'm not entirely happy about the likeness. This was done very rapidly in bed, over a cuppa, before getting off to work in my bookshop. Comment is welcome. So what do you think I could do to improve it?
A4 watercolor painting of Haruki Murakami. I am reading Murakami at the moment so I think there is an influence of his fiction affecting the look of his portrait if that makes any sense #Haruki_Murakami

So this is the initial draft for a painting probably called, the hands of the poet Sylvia Plath, at least I've got something of a likeness of Sylvia Plath, or don't you think so? this is partly after 'the hands of the poet' by René Magritte
Plain air A4 fine liner sketch in Folkestone very fast over a cup of tea just now. We are in Folkestone buying books from Michael's bookshop in Ramsgate
Today's freehand A4 fine liner pen sketch is of Haruki Murakami. This is very much a first draft to get something that is a better likeness I will need to watch several videos of him being interviewed. I used a contemporary photo by Yomiuri Shimbun #murakami
