❗️Crypto’s rebellion is over. Today, Web3 is unreachable.
Crypto was born from rebellion, decentralization, and the idea that we could build outside the traditional financial system. That era is ending. MiCA has changed what it means to build a crypto company in Europe, and I believe what comes next is much bigger!
I haven't written a long-form article in years. Not because I don't like it, but because I don't have time while running @Venga_App. However, I did take some time to share my thoughts about how the industry has changed over the last couple of years and my thoughts on where crypto is heading in 2027 and beyond.

🇪🇺HUGE: ECB President Christine Lagarde personally intervened to block Binance from securing an EU-wide license, per WSJ.
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde reportedly intervened to shut out the world’s LARGEST spot CEX from obtaining a Europe-wide crypto license, applied through Greece, despite Greek officials telling Binance its application was complete.
Binance had already prepared a “Major Milestone” announcement, with CEO Richard Teng planning to travel to Athens for a photo with Greece’s Prime Minister before the plan was ultimately derailed.
Swap (crypto to crypto) functionality is currently down due to a small internal issue. Teams are aware and a fix is coming. Buy and Sell functionalities are fully functional.

A lot has been achieved, the MiCA license has been secured, but so much is yet to be launched. We are cooking up many amazing products and features that we plan to launch before the end of 2026. We are racing, and the entire team is now truly living by our slogan #ReadySetVenga. 🏎️
I often get asked: why Barcelona, and why have I built the first Catalan crypto app? The answer is simple:
1. I love Barcelona, and I've lived here for 6 years.
2. I love Catalonia and the Catalan culture.
3. I love all of Spain, all its regions, and its languages.
4. I believe that having a local identity matters.
5. I believe it's important to build a product tuned to the local market: think local before going global.
6. I hate thoughtless mass globalization (Ex: that identical Five Guys or H&M you find in every European city).
7. I believe expansion to other countries should be done in a localized way.
In addition, Spain is a tier-one regulatory jurisdiction, and Barcelona is one of Europe's main innovation and entrepreneurship hubs.
For me, building @Venga_App in Barcelona was never just about where the company is headquartered. It was about building a company with real local roots.

Last week I gave an interview to @VIAEmpresa, who published a nice article about Venga's experience through the final months before obtaining MiCA authorization from the CNMV, the effects of having this license today, and what this means for our future growth.
As VIA Empresa quoted me: "O l'aconseguíem, o bé havíem de tancar o traslladar-nos a una altra jurisdicció."
This means that “Either we got MiCA, or we had to close or move to another jurisdiction.” In reality, moving to another jurisdiction was not an option. So the final two months were extremely stressful for the entire Venga team, as our future depended on obtaining the license.
