Per the inanity of 'gentrifying nicely', here's my review of Alan Wieder's recent meditation on a community's resistance to urban displacement: ohs.org.uk/reviews/we-will-n…
I recommend Camberwell as a place to move to in London, especially if you're planning on having kids. It's gentrifying nicely but it's still pretty cheap. It's pretty well connected transport-wise and it has some excellent shops, restaurants, pubs and parks - two of the best pubs in London, in fact, and one of the best parks. I see loads of young families around, and I gather the primary schools are good.

Shout out to all those grassroots organising at home, at work, in their communities, in colleges, at the Job Centre, for Palestine, in food banks, on estates, in the streets. These things are everyday and consequential. Party politics is where all that energy goes to die

Today marks 91 months since 72 loved ones were taken from us at Grenfell. We still have no clear road to Justice, and no adequate health monitoring to ensure all bereaved and survivors get to see it if it comes. Will we see any improvements before the 8 year anniversary?

When I worked in homelessness people understood that if you called the police on your clients, your clients had a high chance of being hurt in some way. So we often handled incidents ourselves - often more successfully than calling the cops. That is aboltion.
How did the left end up with a bunch of positions that are completely alien to the people we aspire to represent? I loved this conversation with @ayocaesar

Chris Jones (@56aInfoshop) pens an acerbic, poetic, and emphatic rebuke of the gentrification of Elephant and Castle, casting the London neighbourhood’s “regeneration” as reflective of the sterile desires of the ruling class and their contempt for the poor.

My short review of Peter Barham's excellent, important new book.
'Outrageous Reason... enjoins a revaluation of conceptions of pathology and dysfunction, as well as the hegemony of whiteness that upholds them.' Michael Romyn reviews Peter Barham's Outrageous Reason: Madness and Race in Britain and Empire, 1780-2020 histhum.com/review-outrageou…

Finally reading @michael_romyn's extraordinary article about Black identity and the history of British basketball which I'm teaching this week, and struck by this incredible image of Michael Jordan at the Brixton Recreation Centre in 1985. academic.oup.com/hwj/article…

A refugee from Sudan. Likely made homeless at the end of the asylum process like thousands of others. This man has survived war, likely a brutal journey & years warehoused in the asylum system, only to be stamped in the stomach & dragged across the ground like an animal.
NEW: Police in Manchester say an officer’s behaviour was unacceptable and must never be repeated after video emerged of her dragging a rough sleeper across the ground and deliberately “stamping” on his stomach.
