Pals, I'm giving an International Women's Day talk this Friday, on the subject of the lack of female representation in Queensland's commemorative landscape (e.g. statues, buildings, plaques, parks, avenues, etc). Just finished the data, and it's kind of shocking. (thread)

Whose #stories are told? by whom? and how? - The importance of these questions for #socialinclusion in #museums and wider society is illustrated by this museum’s Commitment to Anti-Racism in response to the murders of George Floyd and countless others.

Public commitment to anti-racism work is long overdue, and this is just a start. We commit now to the following actions, listed on our website. tenement.org/about-us/commit…
On June 2nd, the Tenement Museum’s leadership issued a statement in response to the recent murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others.

What was not named, and is important to name explicitly now, is our support for the Black Lives Matter movement and uprisings against police brutality. Language is powerful and we must exert that power with care. We apologize for harm that our previous statement has caused workers, visitors, and communities of the Lower East Side.
