After 50 years of the failed War on Drugs, it is now apparently "racist" to complain about the government putting poor people in cages for using drugs. Take a look at the San Francisco Mayor yesterday, and then compare it to what one of Nixon's key advisors said:

ALT Mayor London Breed fiercely defended her controversial policy to arrest drug users to get them into treatment against criticism from Supervisor Dean Preston, calling him a “white man who’s talking about Black and brown people as if you’re the savior.”

ALT We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hilppies with marijuana and the blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up meetings, and villify them night after night on the evening news. did we know we were lying....?

Washington State enacted a 7% capital gains tax levied on annual profits in excess of $250,000, and made a *fortune*, $600m more than projected in the first year, despite a 25% drop in the stock market and blistering #InterestRate hikes:

The markers of impending fascism are growing more alarming, and many liberal and “progressive” politicians and journalists are not treating the situation with urgency. This is the role that police play:
NEW: Activists in Georgia posted flyers naming one of the cops in Tortuguita’s killing. They were arrested, placed in solitary confinement and now face a felony and 20 years in prison. W/ @natashalennard theintercept.com/2023/05/02/…

I have been informed that during tomorrow’s floor session there will be a motion to either censure or expel me.
I've also been told I'll get a chance to speak. I will do as I have always done—rise on behalf of my constituents, in defense of my community, & for democracy itself.

More liberals are noticing that expansion of police, and the alarming expansion of police surveillance budgets in Democratic cities, poses a profound threat to the health of women and trans people. It is this bureaucratic machinery that'll be used to enforce all right-wing laws.

Pay close attention to what is happening in Tennessee. This is the decline of democracy in real time and the re-assertion of white supremacy. The GOP is acting as if there are no consequences but there are. Vote. Protest. Demand change.

Police, corrupt politicians, and large corporations raised $90 million in private cash to destroy the forest to make way for a place where cops can learn how to do things like urban combat. They have been engaging in the predictable lies. theintercept.com/2023/03/08/…

THREAD. One of the biggest political scandals of our time is coming to a head today. Democratic leaders just announced they will vote with the far-right to overturn a democratically passed DC law. The story is important, and full of weird lies.

Calling poor, deliberately segregated neighborhoods “high crime areas” is one of the most disgusting and persistent examples of modern copaganda. The New York Times should be ashamed, four times over.

NEWS: My god. $820 million. NYC taxpayers will pay *$820 million* in just overtime for NYPD this year. Could instead house all 14,000 homeless families in NYC. Then years of rent for 7,000 families out of work & at risk of eviction. With millions left over.thecity.nyc/2023/1/12/235529…
