I just want to tell you not to feel bad or guilty about admiring Sydney Sweeney, whether it’s for her work as an actress or simply because you like her! Let’s go point by point. First, Syd has been used as a political symbol without her consent for years. I can’t blame her for staying silent about it because we know what happens when celebrities push back against that kind of thing. That said, she HAS subtly defended herself against these accusations. She has said several times that the internet doesn’t know her and that everything people say about her sounds like fanfiction about her life. In the following tweets, I’ll share several links to interviews and even statements from people who work with her and have defended her. Second, people accuse her of things without any evidence. You can’t call someone racist when they have NEVER been racist. You can’t label someone MAGA just because you feel like it. There’s no evidence of any of that. There are even men in the industry who like that kind of content and follow MAGA accounts on Instagram, yet nobody cancels them the way they cancel Sydney, who has never liked any of that content. In fact, she has consistently shown support for minorities. Yes, Sydney can do questionable things. We’re not always going to agree with everything she does. And yet, despite all these supposedly “questionable” things, she receives more hate than actors who commit CRIMES. Men in this industry aren’t expected to share their political opinions. Plenty of celebrities stay silent about these issues, but Sydney keeps getting dragged into these conversations over and over again. I just want to say that Sydney isn’t the devil people make her out to be, and all these people acting morally superior have their own favorites who do questionable things without them saying a word. I don’t want to resort to pointing out which celebrities have done what just to defend Syd, but there’s so much hypocrisy. And, as always, cancel culture seems to affect women the most. Thankfully, Sydney has built strong connections and a solid circle of friends who respect her and don’t leave her to deal with everything alone. These online cancellation campaigns don’t affect her the way her haters want them to. Before you hate on Sydney, ask yourself: when was the last time you put that same energy into hating a man who does genuinely awful things?
