Nearly 70 mph while parked in Fort Walton Beach during the hurricane.
Our Calypso ultrasonic wind instrument recorded that peak gust during Hurricane Isaias, while an Extreme Wind Warning and Flash Flood Emergency were in effect. Also notable: the parking lot was flash flooding faster than anything I'd ever seen.
We’re still reviewing the full dataset our team collected, but this is an early look at the observations we brought home. We’re building vehicle-mounted instruments using these ultrasonic anemometers for the 2027 season. They’ll help our field team collect wind measurements to support Recon Weather’s atmospheric research.
A big thank-you to Kaymont for helping us obtain these instruments and supporting the work. They are the supplier of weather balloons to the United States Government and are huge supporters of the crowd-funded research mission that I'm working with. I think it's really cool to have the support of industry leaders like this.

All eyes are on Tropical Storm Isaias, currently located roughly 350 miles southeast of Brownsville, Texas, and a little less than 450 miles west of Cancún, Mexico. Per the 4 p.m. Advisory just issued, maximum sustained winds are up to 65 mph, and movement is toward the ENE at around 8 mph.
Isaias is forecast to become a hurricane by tomorrow morning, strengthening to a Category 2 storm by Friday morning.

Tropical Depression Nine has developed in the Gulf. It's expected to intensify and reach hurricane strength over the next few days. It's remnants could bring much needed rainfall to the region this weekend.

From a spool of filament to a weather instrument using our @BambulabGlobal 3D printers.
We’re building our own equipment for the 2027 field season. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes look at the workshop and one of our vehicle-mounted Isopods, which records atmospheric pressure 20 times per second.
The goal is to collect detailed observations around storms and better understand what’s happening. There’s a lot of printing, soldering, and testing between an idea and something ready for the field.
We've entered the production phase, so it'll be almost constant device building from now until March 1st. If you like supporting independent research projects like ours, be sure to follow and share.

3:45 pm, 10.4.26: An area of low pressure is expected to form over/near the Bay of Campeche around midweek, and the National Hurricane Center has assigned a 40% chance of this storm developing into a tropical system in the next 7 days. It is expected to move northward, but it is far too early to speak on any potential impacts for North Central Texas. I will bring updates as they unfold.

It’s been an off and on rainy 24 hours across the region. Rainfall amounts have varied – roughly a quarter of the UC has picked up a quarter inch or less (a few areas have picked up almost nothing at all). Roughly half the area has picked up nearly a half inch (give or take a quarter), while the top 25% have ended up with nearly an inch with a few pockets exceeding two inches, per radar estimates.

Never thought I’d see the Weather Channel and GTA6 in the same sentence. 🤣
Grand Theft Auto VI is bringing meteorological realism to gaming with dynamic severe weather across the fictional state of Leonida. Players will have to navigate extreme hazards like hurricanes and tropical storms that directly impact the game's environment and mechanics. This next-generation weather tech promises to closely mirror the real-life volatile climate of its Florida-inspired setting.

Severe storms are erupting this afternoon across portions of the central and southern Plains. Here is a look at a tornado-warned storm near Shaffer, KS, carrying an "OBSERVED" tag.
With WeatherStudioPRO, you can slice through the storm, determine the most probable location of a tornado, and provide an extremely detailed, 3D, street-level mapping presentation of the threat.

The number of people I’ve been seeing posting wind maps thousands of feet up to hype / make the nor’easter look worse has been wild. Unless you’re on the top of Mount Washington, use wind at the surface where people actually are, lol. 😉

4:05 pm, 9.22.26: The autumnal equinox approaches! In three hours, at 7:05 pm central time, our tilted orbit around the sun will be positioned so that the sun will shine directly on the equator. From that point on - until the spring equinox at 4:25 pm on March 27th - the sun's rays will be primarily aimed at the southern hemisphere. As we move toward winter, they'll be getting ready for summer!

A look back at the spaghetti model cycle history of #Lowell, showing the notable eastward nudge as the storm approached Kauai and Niihau earlier this week.

Incredible satellite presentation with Hurricane Lowell which is currently a strong Category 4 Hurricane located 600 miles south of Hawaii. Lowell is expected to continue to intensify reaching Category 5 intensity before it begins to turn more to the northwest then eventually north.
Most model guidance keeps Lowell west of Kauai however should still monitor the progress. #hiwx #hurricane

1:40 pm, 8.30.26: Well, this is getting interesting. AL97 was just upgraded to a 50% of tropical development in the next 2-7 days. That's up from 30% this morning and 20% yesterday. It is still expected to track toward the Texas coast, probably coming ashore Tuesday. I will monitor this and update the forecast as needed. No changes for now, but I am watching...

5:50 pm, 8.29.26: I'll be watching this little disturbance in the Gulf. It only has a low 20% chance of development in the next 7 days, but does appear to set to track toward the Texas coast. Very low chance of this doing anything for us...but I'll be watching!
