‼️𝗣𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗟 𝗛𝗔𝗦 𝗣𝗨𝗕𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗗 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗚𝗔𝗟 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦‼️ Papergames Legal published a new article today, 17/09, detailing the progress they have made in taking action against multiple forms of infringement involving both the company and its players. The article reiterates that Papergames has a “zero-tolerance” stance toward malicious insults and rumours, unfair competition, black and grey market activity, copyright and trademark infringement, game leaks, and other behaviour that infringes on the legitimate rights of the company or its players (sounding familiar LADies? I wonder what the ‘rights defence brigade’ on here that has been inciting people to do unnecessary things has to say to this 🤭) One of the most important parts of the article is that Papergames confirms that MULTIPLE RELEVANT CASES are ALREADY IN JUDICIAL PROCEEDINGS, and says its legal account will continue following those cases and disclose the results of its rights-protection actions when appropriate. So these are not just threats of possible action. Legal proceedings are already underway. For everyone who has been wondering why PPG has been so quiet publicly while all of this has been happening, this could very well be part of the reason 🧑🏻‍⚖️ it’s highly likely their legal team was like “Don’t say anything, don’t address anything, just post about the game”. They also give an example involving Love and Deepspace itself. In a recently concluded case, defendants illegally obtained large amounts of citizens’ personal information, mass-registered LADS accounts and used them to obtain unlawful profits (This could be referencing when we saw multiple platforms that were selling LADS accounts either close down or remove all LADS items from their stores/services). Several defendants were convicted, with prison sentences ranging from 1 year and 3 months to 4 years and 5 months. But I think the second half of this article is especially relevant to what we have been seeing online over the past few months: Papergames DIRECTLY addresses online abuse, malicious insults, fabricated rumours, defamation, doxxing and the exposure of private personal information, and encourages players to use legal and platform reporting channels when they encounter this behaviour. They then provide actual instructions for reporting abuse through Weibo and Xiaohongshu, China’s national 12377 reporting system, and, where necessary, through the courts or police. LADies/Lillies, this part is SO important. A lot of the behaviour we have seen surrounding the current online movement has gone FAR BEYOND normal disagreement over a game. People have been insulted, mocked, targeted, had rumours spread about them, and in some cases have been subjected to behaviour that is clearly intended to intimidate people into shutting up or leaving the conversation entirely. Disagreeing with someone, disliking a boycott, disliking a fandom movement, or supporting a different character is one thing. But harassment, defamation, doxxing and coordinated bullying are another. PPG is now VERY explicitly telling its playerbase that these behaviours are NOT something players are simply expected to tolerate! they are actively encouraging people to PRESERVE EVIDENCE (❗️ring any bells????) and use the available reporting and legal channels. Considering how ugly parts of the LADS community have become recently (I’m not naming names, because I refuse to give such disgusting actions and behaviour a platform), I think this is an important article for people to actually read.
