The best approach to trading is being calm Not emotionless Calm You need a balanced emotional state to trade well You cannot be too excited You cannot be too sad You cannot be too greedy You cannot be too fearful You need enough fear to respect risk Enough greed to keep you motivated But enough emotional control to prevent either one from taking over your decisions Because once your emotions interfere with your mind, they eventually interfere with your trading And everyone keeps telling traders: “Stay calm.” “Control your emotions.” “Don’t get emotional.” But nobody really tells you HOW to become calm So let’s talk about it The first step to becoming a calm trader is removing the pressure that makes you feel like you HAVE to make money from every trade If you are trading because you desperately need to pay your rent… If you need your next trade to pay your school fees… If you need a payout to fund your business… If your family is depending on you to make a certain amount of money… You are not just trading the market anymore. You are trading with a deadline And that changes everything You stop asking: “Is this a valid setup?” And start asking: “How much can I make from this?” You stop thinking about your risk You start thinking about your target You see yourself up $500, but you need $1,000 So you refuse to close “Let it run.” The trade reverses Now you’re angry You take another trade to make it back That trade loses Now you’re desperate You increase your risk You start chasing setups You start entering late You start forcing trades And suddenly, you’re no longer following your strategy You’re trying to make your financial problems disappear through your next position That is where FOMO, greed, fear and overtrading begin feeding each other So if you want to become a calmer trader, start by reducing the pressure around your trading Handle your financial obligations through other means where possible Build another source of income Don’t trade with money you desperately need for necessities Give yourself enough financial breathing room that losing one trade doesn’t feel like your life is falling apart Because when you don’t NEED the next trade to save you, you can actually see the trade clearly You can take your setup You can accept the loss You can take your profit You can walk away And most importantly, you can remain detached from the outcome Your trade is not responsible for fixing your life Your job is simply to execute your edge and manage your risk The calmer your mind is, the easier it becomes to follow your process And this is only the first step
