Helen, Helen, Helen
Let me explain this to you in plain and exceedingly simple English.
Disabled kids are most likely to have been born with their disabilities or conditions (as I was). I know this might be shocking to you Helen, but we don't just stop being disabled at 18. Being born with a disability is usually a lifetime deal.
I tell you what, care to swap? You can have my cerebral palsy (and the benefits that you say come with it) and I'll take your fully functioning extremities and become an MP. Not a Tory one though, because I'm not a horrible bastard.
By the way, if you accept my offer, good luck trying to wipe your backside, put your own clothes on, wash any part of your body or doing any sort of cookery (since you won't be able to hold a knife properly) are, and one more thing, forget about rolling yourself over in bed at night, you'll have to get somebody to help you with that as well. But yeah, apart from that, a lifetime on benefits is really fucking easy isn't it?

We know you are not very bright Tice, you really do not need to keep reminding us!
As your Tory Rejects will explain to you there is no British Airways anymore - not as a credible entity in the UK anyway!
Since it was sold by your hero/mentor Maggie Thatcher in 1987 the UK government does not own a stake!
In 2011 British Airways merged with Spain's Iberia to form International Airlines Group (IAG), a multinational airline holding company.
BA ceased trading independently on the London Stock Exchange and became a subsidiary of IAG.
BA was sold for £900,000, so - to give you another example of a disastrous Tory deal - for the year 2025, BA operating profit was £2.23 billion with a strong operating margin of 15.2%,

Helen Whately has spent the past few days promoting a fictional divide between disabled people and “hardworking taxpayers”.
First, she shared a carefully constructed £27,400 benefit figure that combines Universal Credit, housing support and enhanced PIP, as though rent and disability-related costs were disposable income.
Then she suggested Labour MPs only resisted PIP cuts because claimants outnumbered their majorities. What she didn’t mention was that this applies to a higher proportion of Conservative and Reform MPs, and her own majority is just 1,469.
Disabled people are workers, taxpayers, carers and voters. We are not “Benefits Street”, and we will not be reduced to figures on a political spreadsheet.

Imagine making it your life’s work to attack the sick, the disabled and the vulnerable, while at the same time claiming huge sums of money in expenses on top of your very large salary?
What kind of person would do that, @Helen_Whately?

He committed a crime whilst on bail, filmed himself doing it then uploaded it to social media and then told the police he had no fixed abode so therefore no bail address. But you know all that don't you.

I was walking to the building where I work in Oxford when I passed three young girls speaking Farsi and I couldn’t help but run back and ask if they were from Afghanistan.
They said yes. It had been a few months since their arrival as refugees waiting in Pakistan, now studying at a local school in Oxford.
I was swelling with emotion. These girls just escaped 5 years of gender persecution under the Taliban. Erasure of their schools. And are now in Oxford, studying freely.
Thank you to the U.K government for giving them a second chance.
As a former refugee myself, we all just need one chance, as Canada gave to my mother and I.
Two sets of Afghan women, escaping two Taliban regimes, meeting in Oxford. All in the hopes of finding freedom through education.

Okay, I'm breaking character here. This is not a satire post. My 2-year-old son is in a wheelchair that we can't fit into our car. We are not eligible to apply for a wheelchair accessible vehicle until he is three--and even then we would have to pay about £13,000 towards it (which we don't have).
The idea that disabled people get given free cars willy-nilly is bullshit. My son has to attend regular appointments at various locations. He has a team of specialists dedicated to helping him with an extremely rare neurological condition that means he needs around the clock supervision.
He can't even hold his own head up so a regular car seat is out of the question. He was using a baby seat, but he's outgrown that. It's really tough for us to get around because misinformation from pricks like Nigel influences public opinion. Does this seem right?

Every time your phone tells you where you are, it is using a mathematical model of the shape of the Earth.
A Black woman from rural Virginia spent decades building that model by hand, and almost nobody knew her name until she was in her eighties.
Gladys West. She grew up in a sharecropping family in Dinwiddie County and understood early that the alternatives were the tobacco fields or the factory. She finished top of her high school class, which came with a scholarship, and took it.
Her work was satellite geodesy: taking the raw data coming down from orbit and using it to compute, correction by correction, the true irregular shape of the Earth. Not a sphere. Not even a neat ellipsoid. A lumpy thing with gravitational highs and lows.
That model is the foundation the Global Positioning System sits on. You cannot locate a point on a surface until you know precisely what the surface is.
She did this for decades, largely unremarked, and retired in 1998.
She was recognised in 2018, when her sorority mentioned her biography at a function and someone realised what was in it.
The Air Force inducted her into its Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame. She earned a PhD in her seventies.

👏 Finally, we have a PM telling the truth about why Britain is stuck in a trap, a trap that had been closing around us for decades, but which finally snapped shut with Brexit.
The extraction of public wealth has hollowed out our essential services. It was enabled by an over centralised, winner takes all political system that hands enormous power to governments elected by a minority and allows wealthy donors and vested interests far too much influence over policy.
In 1960s, the Beeching cuts dismantled thousands of miles of railway. They were implemented under transport minister Ernest Marples, who had longstanding links to the roadbuilder Marples Ridgway. Britain promoted motorways and cars by destroying much of the alternative. Other European countries expanded roads while retaining far stronger rail networks.
In 1964, Tesco founder Jack Cohen successfully lobbied for the abolition of Resale Price Maintenance. It helped supermarkets consolidate power at the expense of independent retailers, farmers and smaller suppliers. Much of Europe imposed stronger restraints on monopoly and protected domestic production.
Thatcher’s assault on industry was the most brutal stage. Rapid deindustrialisation devastated communities, while Britain’s North Sea oil and gas windfall helped the government absorb the resulting unemployment instead of building national wealth for the future, as Norway 🇳🇴 did.
Then came the great privatisation: water, energy, transport and other strategic infrastructure treated as assets to be sold and exploited rather than services essential to national resilience.
We can now see where that politics ends: sewage in our rivers, vulnerable water supplies, failing infrastructure, regional inequality and private extraction underwritten by the public.
Brexit was the culmination. It removed Britain from the European structures that had constrained some of this behaviour, weakened our economy and left an already centralised state even more exposed to vested interests.
So @andyburnham is right to connect our European future with electoral reform.
To begin releasing Britain from the trap, we must repair our relationship with Europe and replace FPTP.
Those are not separate reforms. They are the two keys needed to unlock the country. 👏
