Itâs hard to fathom that it has been almost half a century since we lost Elvis Presley. Another year, another sad anniversary.
Elvis was both the funniest person and the most serious person I ever knew. One minute, he could have me laughing with some silly joke, and the next, he would be on the phone late at night, talking about a terrible story he had seen on the news.
Elvis was extremely sensitive. He had the biggest heart. He felt everything. Beneath the fame was a man who was deeply affected by the world around him and by the people he loved. That tender, caring side of him is something I will never forget.
This is my favorite photo of us because it captures the joy and affection we shared. We had so much fun making Speedway! Elvis had a tandem bike made, and we would ride it around the studio lot, much to the chagrin of the studio heads, occasionally even popping up on a studio tour. We were like The Katzenjammer Kids!

Marines. The dog is Mack. Three-year-old Border Collie. Ten months ago, Chris lost his apartment.
Landlord sold the building. New owners wanted everyone out in 30 days. Chris couldn't find pet-friendly housing that fast. Surrendered Mack to a shelter. Promised him he'd be back. It destroyed Chris. Two months ago, Chris got into a veterans housing program. First thing he did? Started searching. Called 47 different shelters. Emailed.
Visited. Searched online databases every single day.
Found Mack listed 10 days ago. When Chris walked in with his housing caseworker, Mack entered the room. Stoppea. Stared at Chris. Completely frozen. Like his brain couldn't process it. Ten full seconds of nothing. Then Mack started spinning. Frantic circles. High-pitched crying sounds. Then he launched himself at Chris. Wrapped his paws around Chris's neck. Wouldn't let go. Both collapsed to their knees. Mack was shaking so hard.
Chris was sobbing. Staff gave them 20 minutes alone.
Mack never stopped trembling. Never unwrapped from Chris's neck. Chris kept saying: "I told you l'd come back. I promised you." Shelter director Amanda told us: "Mack has been completely shut down since he arrived. Doesn't play. Doesn't interact. Just waits.
When Chris walked in, that ten-second freeze was heartbreaking. Then the explosion. I've never seen anything like it." Chris said: "I called 47 shelters.
Some of them multiple times. I wasn't giving up.
Mack waited ten months because I promised him." Sometimes ten months feels like forever. But a promise kept changes everything.

My beloved mother was a gem, an icon. She was my best friend and my biggest supporter. She gave me life, and she was the light of mine. She was a blessing to me and to anyone who knew her.
She went to heaven eight years ago today. I was fortunate to have her in my life for 78 years, yet nothing could have prepared me for the depth of grief her passing would bring. I still havenât gotten over losing her, and I donât think I ever will.
I know weâre only just passing through, and I believe death is not the end. Energy never dies, but letting go is so hard.
Iâll love you always and miss you forever, Mama. Not a day goes by that I donât think of you. Until we meet again.
