I was today years old when I learned how an h-index is calculated; meaning, I was today years old when I realized how deeply flawed the whole academic hiring/promotion system is.

Had a great time talking to org leaders about the crucial role of building trust with employees in order to successfully implement workplace #mentalhealth support programming at #WorkingStronger2024
Thank you @CMHA_AB for this empowering and energizing meeting!
It’s a sickness, really

A question for the #AcademicTwitter community:
Do you put all manuscript reviews (including re-reviews) on your CV? If so, do you differentiate between initial reviews and re-reviews?
#AcademicHelp #phdlife @ThePhDPlace @AcademicChatter
33%Yes, they’re all reviews!
17%Yes, but I differentiate
50%No, only initial reviews

Such an inspirational evening! It was incredible to feel the strong sense of community that came from bringing together a group of #WomeninScience👩🔬✨
Key lessons learned:
- No one can do it alone!
- Saying no is a skill
- Be prepared w/data & solutions when bringing up an issue
A huge thank you to our speakers for an inspiring kick-off to our #WomeninScience Seminar Series! @amyyu_md #LenaQuilty #DeniseGastaldo

Say it with me: This year I will practice saying no to work that is beyond my capacity or job description!

A very exciting career moment for me: the first time my work was presented to me (unknowingly)! And by an inspirational clinician scientist, the wonderful @DrKatyKamkar 🤩
Still pinching myself!

A manuscript that I submitted was accepted after 1.5wks w/very minor revisions. Even after months of back&forth w/coauthors to ensure it was high quality when submitted, I thought the journal must be predatory.
Nope. Academia has just conditioned me to expect delays & rejection
So as a #PhD student I’m expected to take classes, do my project, TA + other jobs (so that I can afford life&build my CV), attend conferences, build a network, write papers, present ongoing work, peer review other work, oh and take care of myself…. but… how?
@ThePhDPlace
Proud to think that my publications made a small contribution towards our 2nd place ranking for health sciences research☺️🎉

Started data collection feeling like I had a clear direction for my project and after one interview it was all fuzzy again…
Gotta love qualitative research!

Saw #BarbietheMovie & it really inspired me as a woman in #Academia
Major takeaways:
1. Own my accomplishments!
2. Ideas live on forever, their value is immeasurable
3. The most meaningful path is often the most difficult, but it’s possible with the right ppl in your corner
I love #AcademicTwitter
As soon as anything exciting happens with my PhD project, my first thought is to post about it - it’s so nice to have a community that understands what I do!

Interviewing my first participant for my PhD project this afternoon, and the nerves have me feeling like I’ve forgotten everything I’ve ever learned about interviewing😂
@Anxious_PhD @PhDVoice
When people ask what you’re getting your PhD in do you say your program name or your describe your project?
Explaining my project seems overly specific but the program name has practically no meaning…
Probably overthinking it (like most things)
@Anxious_PhD @ThePhDPlace
Just got REB approval for my thesis project!! Had about 30 seconds of excitement and then realized this means that I actually have to do the work now…😕😂
