So yesterday I saw a dreamy double bill of The Beloved + La Bola Negra. Two Spanish love letters to the craft of cinema. Fantastic casts, such different films, and what a joy to see them evoke pretty similar feelings

I deliberately went in knowing nothing, avoiding synopses and reviews - and for me that was definitely the right choice. I wouldn’t want to spoil that for anyone else. It was love at first sight, all the way to the last frame.

If The Beloved feels like it’s made for people already in love with cinema, La Bola Negra is for everyone to fall for it within seconds. Handsome, tasty, just a feast for the eyes and the soul. More of a cinematic essay I think

Just watching those two interact is worth it, and there’s so much more. All the film crew dynamics, the filming, the editing, the chaos behind the scenes - oh boy, do I love this genre. Give me people making movies about people making movies and I’m happy.
