Ok. I’ve spent a whole day celebrating Karl Deisseroth’s very deserved Nobel (with every other brain enthusiast!). Now let’s talk about the brilliance of Dr. Michelle Monje, his wife. A Stanford physician, neuroscientist and recipient of a MacArthur Genius grant, Michelle has helped pioneer cancer neuroscience, revealing how brain activity can fuel tumor growth and opening new possibilities for treatment. And I say all this because I’ve been lucky to see her work firsthand and have been awe struck since the moment I met her. What makes Michelle extraordinary is the combination of scientific brilliance and her absolute unwavering commitment to children with devastating brain cancers. She is pushing the science forward because those children and their families cannot afford to wait. Everybody deserves to know @michelle_monje.

"Stéphane used to ask me when he’d meet me in the corridor. … ‘So, is this thing going to work?’” Tal Zaks, Moderna's chief medical officer, remembered. “And I used to say, ‘Stéphane, I honestly don’t know. All I know is that I feel like we’ve been put on earth to test this hypothesis.” That's my favorite line from the Moderna story we published yesterday. And, well, social media is a funny thing. Sometimes stories blow up here or on LinkedIn and nobody clicks. Other times people here don't pay much attention, yet there are a ton of readers. Which is to say a lot of people are reading this story, so maybe you should check it out. Yes, you'd need to subscribe. statnews.com/2026/08/24/insi…

FDA refuses to review Moderna’s influenza vaccine statnews.com/2026/02/10/fda-… The quotes here are... quite a thing. Vinay Prasad: "Your control arm does not reflect the best-available standard of care in the United States at the time of the study.” Moderna: FDA previously said control arm was "acceptable." Stephane Bancel: the decision the decision “does not further our shared goal of enhancing America’s leadership in developing innovative medicines." $MRNA and also $PFE
