It was so fun to work on this with @gkochocker and Caitlin Lienkaemper! It is out @PNASNews. If you love olfaction and love math, this one is for you!

Public access to the first fly connectome that spans the full central nervous system!: codex.flywire.ai?dataset=ban…
Different from prior connectomes - it has the brain + cord (think spinal cord)
We use it to ‘embody’ the CNS.

Introducing The BANC (Brain and Nerve Cord) connectome preprint! Thanks to all who helped make this synapse-resolution map of an adult fruit fly central nervous system possible!
Preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
The BANC is publicly available in Codex: codex.flywire.ai/banc
New preprint from @darbly lab, Brian DePasquale lab, and my lab! If you love (or hate) mosquitoes, have a look:
doi.org/10.1101/2025.07.29.6…
We used TEM to describe the circuitry used for CO2 detection by mosquitoes. As usual with mosquitoes, nothing is as expected! 🌬️🦟

🧠 Could positive memories be antidotes to neurological disorders and cognitive decline?
Pew biomedical scholar and @BU_Tweets professor @okaysteve is studying the mechanisms of learning and memory to determine just that. pewtrsts.org/42vEDvG

Great talk from Elizabeth “Betty” Hong from @Caltech on “Olfaction in Drosophila through the lens of natural odors” in yesterday’s @buCSNneuro seminar. Thanks to hosts @meg_younger and @briandepasquale!
The NEIDL @BU_Tweets is hiring! I hope there will be some great vector biologists in the applicant pool (they have all the resources you could dream of to study insect transmission)
Please RT @JobsVector @bloodSparasites @GlobalVectorHub
The NEIDL is hiring Faculty!
With programs in #immunology, #virology, #pathogenesis, and international collaboration, NEIDL faculty work to define, prevent, and treat diseases caused by pathogens with pandemic potential.

It was so much fun to organize this with @BenMatthewsUBC @Joerg_T_Albert and @martaandresm ! We hope to see you all at the next one in 2 years!
It was great fun to host (alongside the dream team @meg_younger @martaandresm and @Joerg_T_Albert) a satellite meeting on mosquito neuroethology at #icn2024berlin — many thanks to the participants… it’s a wonderful time to work on mosquito neuroscience and behaviour!
