@CoalitionGears @GearsofWar Please fix this exploit that is being done locally. Engine.ini allowes you to override Niagara, lumenite, shadows, globalillumination, viewdistance, etc etc. This is being used to lower the particle effect of smoke grenades. It only affects someone inside of a smoke cloud outside of it they act as intended. #gearseday #eday #gearsofwar #gears

I just received some very sad news. My buddy Ryan AKA @DarkFlash_SV passed away on friday. His dad sent me a message earlier this morning. That's when I received the news. I am very saddened by this. My thoughts and prayers and condolences go out to him and his family. 😔

I think it's important to remember a large part of eday's development cycle went to PlayStation. Just to have it cancelled last minute. Sidenote what do you guys want to see first? Skins, characters, maps, Weapon tunings, damage stats?

Unless day one patches cook (I doubt they will) no private lobbies. Browser is campaign only. #gearsofwar #gearseday #eday

I think its been long enough I can talk about this @CoalitionGears leaked their steam depot upload account on the first build they released for eday in plaintext. I let Microsoft and coalition know about it on day one. Whether anything ever happened with it idk. But pretty insane a steam depot account was released in a public build. Would be pretty cool to get a POC to report future things like this too.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news
TLDR private matches are probably not coming server browser is campaign only Lan does work but there is no menu option for it.
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus — parent Versus landing menu
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Barracks
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Matchmaking
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Setup
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Soldier
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Social — Social playlist
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_Ranked — Ranked playlist
- BBDA_Frontend_Versus_SocialEvent — Event playlist
BP_UIWidget_VersusMenu_PlaylistEntry exposes only:
- SetupAsSocialOption
- SetupAsRankedOption
- SetupAsEventOption
No SetupAsPrivateOption, SetupAsCustomOption, or host option exists.
Assets under FairlightConcept/Content/Fairlight/Interface/LobbyBrowser/:
- BP_UIScene_CampaignLobbyBrowser
- BP_UIWidget_CampaignLobbyBrowserItem
- BP_ViewModel_LobbyBrowserItem
- BP_HostGameButton
- BBDA_Toast_CampaignHostingDisabled
- JoinCampaignGameModal/ scene files
- GetLobbyBrowserView
- RefreshLobbyBrowser
- NextLobbyBrowserPage
- PreviousLobbyBrowserPage
ETCOGame_CampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserStatus
- Idle, Refreshing, Filtering, Sorting, Invalid
ETCOGameCampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserFiltery
None, Difficulty, Mission, Playstyle
ETCOGame_CampaignSubsystemLobbyBrowserSortby
- None, Difficulty, Mission, Players
Browser is campaign only The only option i see for competitive moving forward is LAN as currently the following works
- bIsDedicatedServer
- bClampListenServerTickRate
- DefaultServerListenPort
Host: OpenLevel("TestMap_Lobby?listen")
client: UEngine::Browse with 127.0.0.1:44965/TestMap_Lobby returned Pending (0x2) and created an IpNetDriver with a ServerConnection.
There is no exposed menu option for LAN though sigh.

Beyond opinions, there are facts, and I know my perspective may not be pleasant for everyone to read. But I think one thing that helps explain this phenomenon, which has happened in different games and eventually caught up with Gears years ago, is this:
If a game is boring to play, it is usually boring to watch too.
For years, Microsoft focused so heavily on building games around an official competitive esports scene that was never truly sustainable financially, and that priority on competition over the casual audience slowly pushed the core of the game further away from what made it special in the first place. At some point, esports viewership started declining even faster than the game itself was losing players.
If esports ever comes back, it has to exist inside a healthy ecosystem built around entertaining the audience first. That means creating something people actually want to watch, something capable of sustaining a real audience before expecting a competitive scene to thrive around it.
Look at it this way: teams competing against each other by itself will not create a healthy ecosystem. Having people who actually want to watch those teams compete will.
The priority should not be the competitive players themselves. The priority has to be building a potential audience that genuinely wants to watch competitive players compete.
And that requires a process. At the very least, the base game has to be fun to play first.
Now more than ever, anyone who wants esports to exist will probably have to look for their own sponsors, build their own competitions, maybe even create their own platforms for that audience, and most importantly, generate a community that actually wants to consume those events.
For years, I think too many people waited for The Coalition to create the financial conditions where players could make money simply because they were good at the game. But there is a reason the official Gears esports program ended in 2022.
I’m not saying people should give up on esports. I’m saying we need to understand what the priority has to be first: the game needs active players who are actually having fun.
The people who come home from work and want to play for a couple of hours are the ones who should be prioritized. Not the people who have enough time to play 15 hours a day. Building the game mainly around that audience is not sustainable, because eventually you just create a bubble.
