We asked Chat GPT how AI can be trained to be considerate and equitable and it came up with some really accurate and interesting recommendations which we should definitely build into our planned way forward.
Enabling music education to be more individual and more personalised to people’s preferences and therefore more inclusive.
Hope that AI will help us do more of the stuff that we’re brilliant at and enjoy and less time on the stuff that often takes up an inordinate amount of our time - admin etc
… and planning ahead for ethical use of AI and learning from the risks that have manifested around other tech platforms to try to avoid those kinds of pitfalls as AI develops and becomes widely used in music
People from low income backgrounds are not usually early adopters of new technology because of initial high costs. It would be great if the developing role of AI in music could be more democratic and equitable to access regardless of your background.
The recording and listing of where datasets have been drawn from - a bit like showing a list of ingredients in food items - might become part of the regulation around use of datasets.
Dataset biases are a problem, and beyond that the datasets and algorithms are created by people working in Silicon Valley who will bring their own biases and perceptions. So that needs looking at too.
Generation of AI images: risks include that it inherits biases and could further entrench lack of representation. For example if you ask AI to generate an image of an orchestra it gives you an image of exclusively white musicians and no disability.
