🚨 Montell Jordan Reveals Drake’s “Papi’s Home” Helped Him Finally Recoup His First Album 28 Years Later! 👀🔥
Singer Montell Jordan recently appeared on the TFU Podcast and revealed how Drake sampling his 1990s song “Daddy’s Home” on “Papi’s Home” from Certified Lover Boy helped him finally recoup the money he was owed on his debut album with Def Jam Records. 🤯💰
What makes this even crazier is that Montell Jordan released his debut album, This Is How We Do It, back in 1995, which featured one of the biggest hits of the entire decade with the album’s iconic title track.
🗣️ Montell Jordan:
“Drake sampling that song from my first album accelerated my recoupment of all those 30 years. It accelerated it for me to finally recoup. It was 28 years later. I ended up recouping my first album on Def Jam. Finally came out of the red into the black, 28 years later. With the help of Champagne Papi.”
👀 THE DRAKE EFFECT IS REAL! 🔥
Think about that for a second. Montell Jordan had one of the biggest songs of the ’90s, yet it took nearly three decades for him to finally recoup his first album’s costs. Then Drake sampled a song from that same album and helped him get over the finish line.
That’s the power of catalog music and what happens when an artist like Drake brings an older record to a whole new generation. 💯🐐
