There is no hate like Christian love.

“Hero vs. Villain” is a compelling and fun narrative lens through which to view the story, and Kristy (great writing, Kristy!) made several cool insights. I want to talk about a couple of those, and some spots where I don’t see reality matching the fun narrative: “Me vs. Doug” I don’t have enemies. This is not a Me vs. Doug thing unless he wants it to be. (That would mean a lot of clicks for both of us!) I made my point. What I wrote was, like nearly everything, imperfect. But it was honest, including my intentions. The only need for me to keep talking about this is when that’s called into question and I have to defend my reputation. The Next Movie I don’t plan for this to be the first big battle of many. I expect we’ll argue again in the future, but I’m not coming after anybody. Kristy is absolutely right that this was the “calling” that made me cross a line I hadn’t crossed — to become the next version of myself. My intention is to make efforts to speak up for those being bullied and to more often condemn bad behavior, whether personal or professional. This has made me grow thicker skin (though it started off translucent!). Other than that, I’ll just keep doing what I have been, rescuing cats from trees, etc. Understanding I was frustrated with Doug’s response to me, but Kristy is absolutely right (again). He had just come off being smacked with all of this. I was wrong to expect him to be anywhere near his best. I’m certainly not at mine right now. He handled it well, all things considered. Empathy from all sides is the only way this turns out well. Doug’s conversation with Fernando and Daniel illustrated the impact of taking the time to understand each other. @DougPolkVids: I'm sure we'll disagree some more, but I promise I'll try harder to pause and imagine things from your perspective, and I hope you'll do the same for me. With Great Power… One thing has been made crystal clear: Doug and I have powerful platforms in poker. I strongly suspect that both of us will take more responsibility and become better versions of ourselves after this. The poker world will face threats for decades to come. Might be one year from now, might be ten — but we’ll fight alongside each other someday.

Why did it end awkwardly? It was a discussion and an invitation that Phil politely declined
