@RebeccaCokley announces the @FordFoundation, @macfound, and the RWJ Foundation's new disability credit union, Project Artichoke. It's the first of its kind and a BFD. fordfoundation.org/news-and-…

Explaining the name, @RebeccaCokley points to Ed Roberts, who said in response to comments that he would only ever be a "vegetable," "If I'm going to be a vegetable, I'm going to be an artichoke. I'm going to be prickly with a big heart." ❤️ 2/2

In 2025, about 1 in 25 disabled folks used a payday loan, draining over $860 million. We see this every day on the ground: disabled folks trapped in a cycle of poverty by predatory payday loans. Important piece from @TCFdotorg & the amazing @kings_floyd: tcf.org/content/commentary/n…
Tzedek DC joins 122 orgs to oppose OppFi from becoming a national bank, which could expand payday loans by allowing it to ignore state interest rate laws, including DC's rate cap of 24%, and to make loans at interest rates as high as 160% APR everywhere. nclc.org/resources/comments-…

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s illegal for landlords to:
- Lock you out or evict you without a court order.
- Shut off your heat, hot water, electricity, or other essential services to force you out of your home.
- Retaliate against you for reporting unsafe conditions or exercising your tenant rights.
- Leave serious health and safety hazards, like mold, unrepaired.
- Discriminate against you because of your race, disability, or other protected characteristics.

🎉This is a historic win for DC residents, and we could not be more proud to stand with @TzedekDC. The DC Council unanimously passed the Medical Debt Mitigation Amendment Act — banning medical debt from credit reports, capping interest rates, and requiring hospitals to screen patients for financial assistance before pursuing collections. It now heads to the Mayor for signature. 90,000 District residents carry medical debt. This is the change they deserve. ow.ly/QkM350Z6TLe #MedicalDebt #ConsumerProtection
.@councilofdc just passed a major step in protecting more than 90,000 DC residents with medical debt. This bill will help prevent long-term financial harm and ensure getting sick does not mean going into debt. Grateful to @CMCHenderson for her leadership. tzedekdc.org/news-1/2026/6/2…
Tzedek DC Disabilities Community Project Staff Attorney @mditkowsky urged the @councilofdc to strengthen the Language Access Act by explicitly including sign languages like ASL. This would expand DC agency requirements to support Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind residents.
