Headline (from yesterday): 60 000 Canadians Sign Petition to Expel Pete Hoekstra. Actually, it was already over 100K. At this moment, it's 149 455 signatures. ourcommons.ca/petitions/en/P…

Joining the voices asking the Carney gov't to resist any further capitulations to the US in trade talks or in general. You can't appease unpredictable bullies-they'll just keep moving the goal posts& our sovereignty will be compromised in the end. @MarkJCarney @DLeBlancNB

People pushed back against this. By this logic, I guess we should cancel all church bells. (Cue folks who haven't been to church since Easter - if even - but suddenly feel strongly that Canada is a Christian country.) P.S. We're not legally/officially a Christian country.

One argument in favour of MAiD is to avoid the trauma of failed (self)-s**cide in favour of a 'dignified' comfortable & assured death by skilled hands. But what of the 1/100 incidences where this is not the case? National Post nationalpost.com/news/maid-c… via @nationalpost

Also...for the individual who was calling out 'help me'...unless there had been prior discussion about this possibility, wouldn't that be a sign to stop as opposed to barreling on?

Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Canada should never offer death as a solution to mental illness. Psychiatrists from the Netherlands, where MAID for mental illness already exists, are warning Canada not to expand this policy. Their message is clear: the evidence is not there. Canadians struggling with mental illness deserve access to treatment, support, and hope, not assisted death.

Many ads about this, especially on radio - private clinics must make $$$, but there are definite harms for patients. Why are the medicine/bioethics communities not saying more about this? #medicine #bioethics @cpso_ca @ambioethics
Unproven whole-body MRI is shoved down the throats of Ontarians on a daily basis. We need a complaint to the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons that this is false advertising. Radiologists Dr. Davenport and Reeder unmask the scam. @cpso_ca @NEWSTALK1010 @MooreintheAM jamanetwork.com/journals/jam…

(1/)Dear Friends, The Canadian Disability Studies Association is experiencing a revitalization and has surveyed past, current (and, hopefully, future) members to hear about what folks would like to see. Here are the results:

The wisdom of @JerrySeinfeld becomes salient in our times: You know how to CALL the ceasefire, you just don't know how to HOLD the ceasefire. And that's really the most important part of the ceasefire - the holding. Anybody can just call them.

My praise goes out to the astronauts on @NASAArtemis II...for many reasons but particularly for those 40 minutes, or so, where they will be completely cut off from contact with earth....that has GOT to be scary!!

I am very grateful for the opportunity provided by the University of Guelph College of Social & Applied Human Sciences to present this work. The event was beautifully organized and it was a pleasure to see the interesting research work being done by other students as well!

If MAiD is openly defended as a valid and dignified choice, I might need some clarification on why a medical certificate of death cannot openly mention that MAiD was the thing that actually ended your life. @cpso_ca

“He’s really hard to deal with but he’s a good doctor.” No, he’s not a good doctor. All of us sometimes have patients we dont mesh with, but some docs are constantly rude or abusive to patients and colleagues. We have to stop excusing this as being acceptable if they’re smart.

"MAiD is shifting the focus of medicine from the treatment of suffering to the elimination of the suffering patient. This shift...reflects structural pressures that are increasingly shaping practice." healthydebate.ca/2026/03/top…

Canadian here:I didn't vote Lib but have overall been happy with Carney et al. But now: why was Canada so quick to endorse US/Israel strikes on Iran? I would have been more comfortable with a slower, more measured, response.I just want to understand. @MarkJCarney @AnitaAnandMP

And while we don't have good data, I would guess that most people with mental illness have at least one diagnosis that can be used as the basis for MAiD, especially as they get older. Why does physical disability somehow make it okay to end lives of people with mental illness?
