Hey #PortfolioDay.
I'm Jamie. I draw 2D game asset art, and have previously worked on comic covers and colorist projects. I just wanna draw my silly little fanarts lately. Open for freelance inquiries.

the pokemon champions emergency maintenance is because there were too many mr. rime on the ladder, my bad guys
I was thinking the other day about how valuable analog content is and with so many websites and servers going down today, I believe even more strongly in physical media and physical archives.

idk if something switched in my brain or im just getting older, but people being negative about shit all the time is so exhausting. like making fun of relatively harmless stuff and tearing it apart makes you exhausting to be around

Nobody owns the human body, Miss.
All you highlighted was that, in a world of AI, it is imperative that we have knowledged, studied people in this world and a protected archive of historical works. This threatens to replace history, and that's terrifying. This wasn't a gotcha for people who studied art/animation.
The results are in.
The Ariel pencil test was made with #AI.
The color version is the original movie footage.
I left both versions unlabeled because I wanted to see how peopleβs assumptions about AI would affect their judgment.
While some of you spotted it right away (I even left a few clues, like the incorrect peg holes and random annotations), the majority of you criticized the color version thinking it was AI and praised the pencil test believing it was #GlenKeaneβs original work.
Thatβs the bias against AI I wanted to highlight. People were pointing out supposed AI flaws in the original Disney animation, while praising the AI-generated pencil test for its human touch.
If you preferred the pencil version, you can still prefer it. The video hasnβt changed. Only what you know about it has.

in global news a Russian bot farm was attacked and destroyed by Ukrainian forces, so anyone still calling you slurs on Twitter today is organic farm to table
If you use too many references for your art, the God of Artistry ascends from Hell and murders your family. I've been alone for so long...
You should actuallly take my advice, and learn to draw from making a lot of NSFW most of the time. Learn how to construct figures, and to lose and make them interact. Do studies from NSFW sources if you want. Or don't. None of this really matters and only you know what helps you.
Reproducing Glen Keane's animation is diabolical. Additionally, they've changed Arial from being an anxious, excited teen to a πππ. Her biting her lip with a shy, closed-tooth smile was on purpose. To what point is turning the final product into shittier pencils?
We can tell it's AI generative software output. The "Pencil Test" is a mess of off model, off character scribbles that doesn't match the actual movie, shown below.
It's interesting that a few accounts, both "pro" and "anti" didn't notice your clever little gotcha here. "Pro" accounts are glazing the animation from the movie and some "Anti" accounts but not all are hating on it.
Glen Keane deserves more respect than you're showing him here, regardless if people were unclear about what they're looking at.
This is another example of AI users fundamentally misunderstanding character animation. Arial uses closed-tooth smiles frequently throughout the movie, but especially as a mute human. She opens her mouth typically as visual communication tool that she wants to speak but cannot.
I had some enormous canvases at my old place I moved from. Couldn't swipe them all but got enough out. Inspired by Father John Misty's "Total Entertainment Forever" and the work of @simonstalenhag 's "Electric State" I know exactly what I want to paint with physical medium.
I've always loved painting sci-fi stuff but I definitely feel less enthusiastic about our future than I used to be. Maybe some cynicism is in order.
