“Why are Muslims divided? Why can’t the ummah unite against our enemies?” And then, in the same social environment: “Our ethnicity is superior to yours. Your people are ugly. Your food is disgusting. Your women look like this. Your country is inferior.” Every week the same people who tweet “why won’t the Arabs unite?” Or the Muslims unite spend three days mocking Moroccan food, Somali looks and Pakistani accents. Then the weekend comes and they’re back demanding the ummah rise against Israel. Look at who does this. Almost never the man in Casablanca, Karachi or Mogadishu. It’s the diaspora accounts in Paris, London or Toronto, living in a country that files him under one label anyway, who picked up the West’s racial ladder and turned it on his own brothers. You demand unity from governments while you can’t manage it with the guy in your replies. A man who can’t stay civil with a fellow Muslim over a plate of food will never stand shoulder to shoulder with him against a real enemy. Unity starts with how you treat the Somali, the Pakistani and the Moroccan on your daily life. Until then, spare us the sermons about the ummah. You are the division you keep complaining about.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Calling for unity has become a way to stand above everyone else. The sermon lets you play the wise one who sees the problem, with the blame parked on governments and other people. Meanwhile your own behavior shows you couldn’t be united with anyone if they handed you the chance. You can’t even stay civil with your Muslim brother
