Arseniy Konovalov appears to struggle with the gravity of the situation as officers question him about his alleged connections to the CIA.
Konovalov was arrested in March 2024 after previously serving as second secretary at Russia’s consulate in Houston from 2014 to 2017. A Moscow court later sentenced him to 12 years in a maximum-security penal colony for treason. Russian authorities reportedly kept the espionage case largely out of public view until the verdict was announced, bringing attention to a case involving allegations of intelligence leaks to the United States.
