I read the words of my friends and family, and beneath all the grief, rage, and exhaustion, they all return to the same impossible wish: if only we could go back to October 6, 2023 and October 7 had never come. For the people of Gaza, life as we knew it ended on the morning of October 7. Everything that came after has been a descent into hell: death, displacement, hunger, loss, and the destruction of entire lives. That morning became a dividing line in our existence: the life we had before, and the nightmare we have been forced to live ever since. This is a truth many people do not want to hear. But for Gaza, it is impossible to escape.

Slotkin: But I think, frankly, for the state of Michigan, people want to see a Jewish woman and a Muslim man being able to get along, debate, push and pull on each other, and move the state forward. I think it’s good for Michigan. I think it’s good for the country to see that. El-Sayed: I’ll tell you that the thing that neither Senator Slotkin nor I will ever budge on is that you ought to be safe in your place of worship, whether you are Jewish or Muslim or Christian or Hindu or you’re Sikh. And we all believe that this is a place that is better because of our diversity, and we want to fight to protect that.

Mamdani: Over the last year, I’ve met with Jewish New Yorkers across the five boroughs. I’ve met with them in their dining rooms, sat with them on the subway, and spoke to them in their shuls. Time and again, I’ve heard the same thing: antisemitism is real, and it is growing. Here in New York City, while our Jewish neighbors make up only 12% of the population, NYPD statistics show that antisemitic hate crimes account for more than half of all confirmed hate crimes. This is not only unacceptable, it’s something we all have an obligation to change. And City Hall will lead the way. That is why today I’m proud to announce the nation’s first-ever municipal strategy to combat antisemitism, a roadmap for how our administration will confront the scourge of antisemitism now and in the future. We are increasing hate crime prevention funding by $26 million, or more than 800%, from last year. This plan makes a $6.4 million investment in community-based organizations preventing hate violence, more than doubling last year’s funding. We are restarting the interagency security infrastructure working group that was disbanded in 2024, so that city agencies, from the NYPD to the Department of Transportation, can work together to identify threats and protect Jewish New Yorkers before a hate crime occurs. But our responsibility goes beyond protection. Jewish New Yorkers should feel cherished and celebrated in the most Jewish city in America. That’s why we are investing millions in Jewish cultural centers and nonprofits, including $2 million for the Queens Holocaust Memorial Garden and $2.5 million toward Brooklyn Center for New Jewish Culture. While these efforts are aimed at protecting our Jewish neighbors, they will benefit all New Yorkers. Our safety is bound up together. The Mishna teaches us that anyone who sustains one soul, it is as though they have sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Leonard Bernstein filled cavernous theaters with awe. Clara Lemlich won rights that protect workers to this day. Kleinfeld Bridal dressed us for our most special days. And Katz’s has fed us for more than a century. Today, we hold a responsibility to sustain and protect our Jewish neighbors, a responsibility that belongs to each of us. That is the work we are undertaking at City Hall, and I am asking every New Yorker to join us.

🔴 The UK, France and Canada are taking concrete action to ban trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including sanctions targeting those who finance settlement expansion. J Street is urging Congress to consider similar measures: Restricting trade with settlements and sanctioning entities that support their expansion. The fight against antisemitism and the fight against Islamophobia go hand in hand. We rightly ask politicians and leaders to take antisemitism seriously. But we, the American Jewish community, must be just as forceful in rejecting anti-Muslim fearmongering, including in Republican Senate nominee Mike Rodgers’ latest attacks against El-Sayed.
Mike Rogers on Abdul El-Sayed’s victory: "I spent years hunting terrorists and bringing Osama bin Laden to justice. Never in a million years did I think that I would be running against someone who believes America deserved 9/11."

A note to my progressive colleagues and to the organized Jewish community about criticizing Israel without feeding antisemitism: Sharp criticism of the Israeli government is not inherently antisemitic. Criticizing the devastation in Gaza, opposing US military assistance or condemning Netanyahu’s policies are all legitimate arguments. Treating every such criticism as antisemitism is wrong, alienating and ultimately makes it harder to identify the real thing. But progressives also need to recognize that certain arguments can reinforce antisemitic ideas even when that is not the speaker’s intention. Criticize the $3.3 billion in annual military assistance to Israel. But don’t claim that Israel is the reason Americans lack healthcare or affordable housing. That isn’t true and to the average voter who doesn't parse words as carefully it can easily become a story about Jews or Israel diverting money from ordinary Americans through their control of government. Criticize Netanyahu for urging Trump to attack Iran. But don’t call it “Israel’s war.” Trump is the Commander in Chief. He made the decision previous presidents refused to make. Blaming Israel shifts responsibility away from the American president and feeds the idea that Israel secretly manipulates America into fighting its wars. I want my progressive colleagues to take my concerns seriously when I say a particular argument comes dangerously close to reinforcing antisemitic ideas, even if that wasn't the speaker's intention. But if I expect that respect, I must extend the same courtesy in return. I have to distinguish between criticism of Israel that I simply disagree with and rhetoric that genuinely crosses into antisemitism. If we can listen more carefully, criticize more precisely and assume better faith from one another, we might discover that there is more room for honest disagreement than our politics currently allows. jstreetdotorg.substack.com/p…

They Said... If a settler comes to your land, carrying his rifle more heavily than his humanity, do not raise your voice. Do not raise your hands. Do not defend the home where you first learned your own name. Let him uproot the olive tree. Let him break down the door. Let him carve his name into your walls. Then, if you must weep, weep softly, lest you be accused of disturbing the world's peace. And if you die, die quietly, so the evening news can keep its tidy headlines. For in this age, the victim is not expected to survive. Only to master the art of dying without troubling anyone's conscience.

Israel’s crisis isn’t just about the Netanyahu government. It’s about what nearly six decades of occupation have done to Israeli democracy and the Palestinian experience. As Nadav Tamir argues, restoring Israel’s standing abroad requires restoring the values at home that made those alliances possible in the first place. blogs.timesofisrael.com/the-…

Today, I published this article in the Jerusalem Post because I refuse to accept that the death of an innocent humanitarian aid driver should pass without accountability. Ahmad Slim was a husband, a father of two, and a civilian delivering food—not a combatant. If we demand justice for innocent Israelis, we must also demand justice for innocent Palestinians. Human dignity cannot depend on nationality. Every failure to investigate an unnecessary civilian death strengthens extremism and weakens those of us fighting for peace, democracy, and coexistence. Justice is not a concession. Transparency is not weakness. They are the foundations of security and the only path toward a different future. Read my article: "Ahmad Slim's death demands justice, transparency in Gaza."

Public opinion has changed. It’s time for Democratic leaders in Washington to catch up. That means no more blank checks for destruction in Gaza and the West Bank, centering the humanity and security of both Israelis and Palestinians, and building a U.S.-Israel relationship rooted in accountability.
An AP-NORC poll finds that support for Israel has fallen sharply among Democrats, while younger Republicans are less supportive than their older counterparts. The survey also finds most Jewish adults disapprove of Netanyahu, while about 3 in 10 say Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, an accusation Israel vehemently denies. apnews.com/article/israel-po…
