some news: today, iâm excited to launch blackfilmarchive.com. this ever-expanding black film archive provides history and context to over 200 black films made from 1915 to 1979 currently streaming.
every description on the site is lovingly written & researched by me.
for the @guardian, charles burnett & i spoke about âmy brotherâs weddingâ and our years of creative partnership. the story is anchored by my discovery of never before seen images.
to be @1CharlesBurnettâs archivist & film distributor is a great honor. theguardian.com/culture/ng-iâŚ
the unseen âmy brotherâs weddingâ set photos were discovered and scanned in by me in spring 2025.
this photo with arthur jafa (1st camera; first ever film set; left) and charles burnett is one of my favorites. see the others: theguardian.com/culture/ng-iâŚ

How has Charles Burnettâs âMy Brotherâs Weddingâ transformed with the new 4K restoration? We will let the video speak for itself.
Supervised by the director himself, the 4K restoration is playing across the country now: bit.ly/MBWshowtimes
today is my first day as president/owner of @MilestoneFilms, making it the largest black-owned film distributor in the nation. (!)
blackfilmarchive.com also just turned 5 in august (!)
ask me anything and i'll reply in this thread: ngl.link/mayascade
point taken. in moments where it feels access to what you desire is shrinking, i'd focus on what you can control. you can control your production and time investment. i *know* we can not out hustle systemic failures but we can create art that opens us to the world.
