Vacant to Vibrant has been amazing in SF. Hope this is just as rad statewide. Let’s help small business get started and make our cities more…vibrant!
NEW: @CAGovernor Gavin Newsom just signed a law turning vacant storefronts into pop-up business opportunities! This new bill require cities to create a new permit that allows pop-up businesses to operate in vacant stores for up to 120 days, helping to drive up foot traffic and expand opportunities for small businesses.

DoorDash Air is cleared for takeoff with @USDOT @FAANews Part 135 approval to operate our own drones. Years of work with the FAA on safe drone integration got us here, and we’re grateful for the partnership. Watch this (air)space!

This is what it's all about. Small businesses are the engine of local economies in California and across the country. We've gotta find ways, big and small, to make it easier for them. That's why we launched our Unlocking Main Street campaign. Looking forward to partnering with you.
California will remain a pro-business state when I am Governor.

Portable benefits got real airtime and support at yesterday's confirmation hearing for Secretary of Labor. For too long, workers have faced a false choice between flexibility and security. Workers deserve both, and with portable benefits, they can have both. Keith Sonderling recognizes that this false choice hurts workers, and he's been consistent in his support for their right to choose how they work. We're glad to see it, and we're excited to continue to work with him as Secretary.
WATCH LIVE: Acting Labor Department Secretary Keith Sonderling will testify before the Senate Housing, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on his nomination by President Trump to lead the department full-time. xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1YxNrrVgZ…

A lot of inflation nerds were clicking the refresh button over and over waiting for this morning’s @BLS_gov CPI Food Away From Home release. But what if you could have a sneak peak? Our Cheeseburger Index released last week showed Q2 prices for a classic cheeseburger meal was up 0.7% this quarter, nearly identical to the CPI Food Away From Home rate of 0.8% quarter over quarter. Can local data like this be a leading signal of inflation? It'll be interesting to see if the trend holds! usatoday.com/story/money/foo…

DC saw record restaurant closures in 2025. The City Council's response: Kill outdoor dining for many at the height of summer, and then pass a new delivery tax so residents pay more every time they want to order from a local spot. There are smarter policy solutions out there!
The degree to which our government makes it harder for small businesses at every turn—and then people wonder why many independent restaurants are closing.

This is cool. New York used AI to sift through 18 million words of state code and find the old rules that were written for the fax machine era (which, yes, I remember). It's a great use of AI to solve real problems, and it's exactly the kind of policy innovation we pushed for when the DoorDash team launched Unlocking Main Street. Let’s take this to more states!
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order Wednesday launching a review of state rules, designed to eliminate outdated regulations, unfair fees, and redundant reports that waste taxpayer money. The state used AI to scan 18 million words of legal text and flagged thousands of potential reforms that experts at the agencies will evaluate. wivb.com/news/new-york/hochu…

We all love it when our favorite meal or fresh groceries get delivered to our doorstep, whether via car, EV, bike, ebike, scooter, robot, or drone...but now there's a @DoorDash train!? 🤯🚉 All aboard @NJTRANSIT with @DoorDash! So what's the story here? It would cost millions to run expanded World Cup service to MetLife Stadium this summer. The conventional answer: raise fares. Use public funds. Make commuters pay. But @GovSherrillNJ asked the private sector to step in to help @FIFAcom fans get to games without leaving NJ taxpayers holding the bag. DoorDash answered that call and this week, the Meadowlands Rail Line was officially renamed the DoorDash Meadowlands Rail Line. NJ Transit gets real revenue. Taxpayers don't get a bill. A public-private partnership that actually works 🤝

Today, it got a lot faster and easier to build a healthy, affordable grocery cart on DoorDash that's designed specifically for you. Ask DoorDash is a new, conversational way to search the app in your own words through chat, voice, a recipe link, or photo. Tell it that you want to build a grocery cart based on nutrition guidelines for under $100, add in your likes and dislikes, and let Ask do the rest in minutes.

Lots of myths to bust about how and why people order on DoorDash. One of those is that it's isolating. Sad meal on your own. Nope! The data is pretty clear: most restaurant orders feed more than one person, skew suburban, and peak on weekends and holidays when people are getting together. Check out this piece from @PostOpinions.

This week I met with Dashers from across California’s 21st Congressional District to discuss their experiences working in the gig economy, the importance of portable benefits, and expanding food access throughout the Central Valley.   We talked about the challenges workers face balancing flexibility, financial stability, and access to benefits while continuing to serve families and communities across our region. As more people rely on delivery services for groceries, meals, and other essentials, these conversations are important to ensuring workers are supported and families have reliable access to food. @DoorDashImpact

Tonight, I was honored to be named DoorDash's Legislator of the Year! Passing ‘No Tax on Tips’ in the Working Families Tax Cuts helps the thousands of tipped workers who dash, and I was happy to play a part in delivering historic tax relief for them, and the millions of other tipped workers in our country.

Over 20 Dashers and merchants and close to 50 meetings across the House and Senate. A lot said. A lot heard. Days like today are why DashRoots exists. More thoughts to come, but for now, thank you to every advocate who made today possible! #DashRootsInDC

It was great hearing from Door Dashers who are able to pocket more of their hard-earned money thanks to policies like no tax on tips. They earned it, and now they get to keep it.
Our economy survives with empowered consumers, thriving small businesses, and a growing workforce. @EdWorkforceCmte Chairman @RepWalberg understands that. We’re proud to support efforts to protect independent work, cut down unnecessary red tape for small businesses, and expand ways to utilize technology to reach new customers. It was exciting to have the Chairman stop by and speak to dashers and merchants! #DashRootsInDC
