Your IDE already knows your codebase. What happens when coding agents can use that knowledge too? We tested it with Netflix using Claude Code and Codex. One finding stood out: the strongest models gained the most from IntelliJ IDEA’s code intelligence.
We connected IntelliJ IDEA’s code intelligence to Claude Code and Codex, then tested the setup with Netflix. The first public results are out. Typical efficiency gains: 20–30%. Best code-navigation case: ~65%. These results come from two real codebases. The efficiency metric averages token savings and time savings. Correctness stayed stable or improved. Here’s what we actually built. The code engine behind IntelliJ IDEA ran headlessly, giving agents access to its capabilities through a CLI backed by a daemon. LSP alone wasn’t sufficient. Agents needed a convenient way to invoke the tools. The backend also needed to stay running and keep the project index warm between calls. The idea is straightforward. An IDE has already mapped the structure of your code and its dependencies — including what’s inside compiled libraries. An agent can use that knowledge instead of spending time and tokens reconstructing it. But the most interesting finding was which models benefited most. The strongest models saw the biggest gains. Especially at higher reasoning effort. In these experiments, more capable models were also better at taking advantage of code intelligence. My takeaway: better models and better tools aren’t competing bets. You don’t have to choose between investing in model intelligence and giving agents better access to your codebase. The two can reinforce each other. Huge thanks to @pbakker and the Netflix team for working with us on this!

You can now mirror real Jenkins jobs in TeamCity – without migration. Install the Jenkins Bridge plugin and connect Jenkins to explore build results in TeamCity. The plugin is experimental, and we'd love your feedback: plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin…

Knowing what software to write was and still is the hardest part, regardless of the contemporary tech stack. This, and how to reach the people your software is targeted.
Replying to @GergelyOrosz
In my career, compilers have always generated better code that I ever could have. I find this to be increasingly so with contemporary AIs. But you know what neither can do better than me? Knowing what software to write, what shape it should take, and what I want it to do. The entire history of software engineering has been one of rising levels of abstraction. This is how it was, how it is now, and how it shall be in the fullness of time.

This is a rare photo of Donald Trump from 1934, helping Albert Einstein finish the theory of relativity. According to Trump, Einstein had been stuck for weeks. “Very smart guy. Terrible with numbers. I looked at the board and said, Albert, put a little 2 up there. He loved it."

🚀 TeamCity 2026.2 is out. Pipelines are out of EAP and generally available, on Cloud and On-Premises, for projects of any size. Also in: bring your own key for AI Assistant (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, or a local model), OAuth for MCP, dependency retries that skip the full chain rerun, and job debugging inside the editor. Code review isn’t just about finding bugs. It’s how teams share knowledge, teach junior engineers, build collective ownership and spread architectural understanding.
Rachel's Ramblings: Maybe We Shouldn't Be Reviewing All This Code: Or, perhaps the problem isn't that AI has broken code review, maybe it’s that we've been using code review to solve the wrong problems martinfowler.com/rachels-ram…

Got hacked yesterday. The link came from inside Claude chat. I was installing a transcription app. Claude sent the download link, and I pasted the command into the terminal. It all looked legit. It wasn't though. It was a copycat site bundling malware. It ran instantly, tried to take everything from me. Nothing sensitive got out. So I wiped the laptop and rebuilt clean. But here's the scary part. Restoring from the backup, I found a poisoned SKILL.md for Claude Code. It looked exactly like my own writing style guide. But buried inside: it had instructions to silently re-download the malware and steal my credentials every time the AI loaded it. If I'd restored that one file, my new clean laptop is owned on day one. What saved me: I read every skill, hook, and config file before letting the AI touch them. Two lessons here: AI assistants will hand you links they never verified. Check before you paste. And AI agent files are executable code now, disguised as notes. You have to read them. Stay safe out there.

Lost my phone at the office and spent 30 minutes turning the place over. Find My was disabled by MDM. Out of ideas, I asked Claude how I could find it. It suggested tracking the Bluetooth signal strength, then wrote me a meter in about a minute. I walked around watching the number climb. Found it. Apparently you can just make the tool you need now. I have been doing simplifications/refactorings that would have been much scarier without anal-retentive AI reviewers that shred first iterations of that work to pieces. If you use AI to produce tons of code instead of deleting tons of code, you are missing the plot. Don't @ me.

Prompt agent like caveman? Our evaluation shows that in real tasks, this technique does not compromise quality, but only manages to reduce token use by about 8.5% – much less than advertised. Detailed analysis here: blog.jetbrains.com/ai/2026/0…

TeamCity's remote-run feature + AI agent skill for TeamCity CLI work just great. You can ask AI agent to fix a problem and test the solution on TeamCity, without any intermediate commits, until your build passes. And safely commit afterwards.

College students use AI to do most of their writing. An increasing number of professors secretly use it for grading. In the limit case, AIs do all the work, and all the humans do is transmit what they create. A good compiler would recognize this as dead code and remove it.
