I've read @chef_mustard's response on the PancakeSwap governance forum, and I actually agree with his main point:
"Deflation is a means, not the goal."
Absolutely. The goal is to build a bigger, more successful PancakeSwap.
And I think this is something worth clarifying. We're not criticizing the team for trying to grow the protocol. Quite the opposite.
As long-term $CAKE holders, we're probably among those most interested in PancakeSwap's success. We want more liquidity, more users, higher trading volumes and expansion across chains.
That's exactly why we're invested.
But I still don't think the response fully addresses the concerns I raised in my original analysis.
I noticed that @juapia suggested a compromise very similar to mine.
Keep 88% of trading fees for LPs, but split the remaining 12% between Treasury and CAKE buybacks.
Juapia proposed 88/6/6. I suggested 88/4/8.
Neither is necessarily the perfect split. But both preserve something important: a direct connection between growing trading fees and CAKE buybacks.
And that brings me to a few questions.
Why does Treasury need the entire 12%?
What are PancakeSwap's actual operating expenses? How much goes toward development, salaries, marketing and expansion?
And why remove mandatory buybacks from v3/Infinity entirely instead of preserving even a small percentage?
@chef_mustard @PancakeSwap @Headchef_pcs
Could the team share the financial reasoning behind this decision and compare 88/12/0, 88/6/6 and 88/4/8 using actual historical data?
Maybe there's something we're missing. I'd like to understand.
I genuinely believe that making PancakeSwap a stronger business should be our priority.
But as CAKE holders, we also want to know how that growth translates into value for the token we hold.
That's not a conflict of interests. Our interests should be aligned.
We're not asking to abandon The Flip. We're asking whether we can make it better for everyone before the vote.
I've spent some time going through @PancakeSwap's new "The Flip" proposal, and honestly, I'm a bit concerned about what it means for $CAKE holders.
I actually like the idea of making PancakeSwap more competitive. Giving LPs 88% of trading fees could attract more liquidity and improve execution. That's good for the protocol.
But is it good for CAKE?
The proposal cuts CAKE emissions by 69%, from 22,500 to 7,000 CAKE per day.
That's 5.66M fewer CAKE minted annually. Sounds great.
But here's what I think many people are missing.
1. We're also losing a major source of CAKE burns.
According to PancakeSwap's official weekly burn report from October 13:
v2: 270K CAKE burned
v3: 192K CAKE
Infinity: 41.3K CAKE
Other products: ~26K CAKE
So v3 and Infinity alone burned 233,300 CAKE in one week.
If we annualize that week's activity, we get approximately 12.13M CAKE burned per year.
Under The Flip, the dedicated buyback & burn allocation from v3 and Infinity goes to ZERO.
We're saving 5.66M CAKE in emissions but potentially giving up 12.13M in burns at the same activity level.
That's a difference of roughly 6.47M CAKE per year.
2. What happens to deflation?
Using the same weekly burn activity, current daily emissions and approximately 330M CAKE supply:
Current model:
Annual burns: ~27.5M CAKE
Annual emissions: ~8.2M
Net supply reduction: ~19.3M
Annualized deflation: ~5.85%
Under The Flip:
Annual burns: ~15.4M
Annual emissions: ~2.6M
Net supply reduction: ~12.8M
Annualized deflation: ~3.89%
These are illustrative calculations based on one week's activity, NOT historical annual figures or a forecast. Actual burns depend on trading fees, CAKE price and other factors.
But the difference is clear. With the same activity, net deflation could be roughly one-third lower.
3. And what happens if PancakeSwap grows?
This is my biggest concern.
Even if v3 and Infinity trading volumes triple, their mandatory CAKE buyback & burn allocation remains zero under the proposed model.
And if some volume moves from v2 to v3/Infinity, the remaining v2 burn could decrease too.
PancakeSwap could become a much bigger and more successful DEX without that growth translating into additional CAKE buybacks.
As a long-term holder, that's something I find difficult to ignore.
4. Is there a better solution?
I don't think LPs and CAKE holders need to compete with each other.
Why not keep 88% for LPs, but split the remaining 12% between Treasury and CAKE buybacks?
For example:
88% LPs
8% CAKE buyback & burn
4% Treasury
That's just an example, not a proven optimal allocation.
Based on the latest week's activity, preserving roughly 53% of the previous v3/Infinity burns would be enough to offset the proposed emissions reduction.
An 8% allocation could achieve that if the historical weighted-average burn share was around 15%. We need actual fee data across all chains and pools to calculate the correct percentage.
I'm not against The Flip. I want PancakeSwap to attract more liquidity, generate more volume and compete with the best DEXs.
But I also want CAKE holders to benefit directly when that happens.
@PancakeSwap @Headchef_pcs @chef_mustard @DYOR_WAGMI
I couldn't share my feedback directly on the governance forum, so I'm bringing it here.
Could the team publish a proper before-and-after comparison of net CAKE deflation, ideally using 12 months of historical fees?
And have you considered keeping a portion of v3/Infinity fees for buybacks and burns instead of sending the entire 12% to Treasury?
I think there's room for a solution that works for everyone.
The proposal is still open for discussion. I'd genuinely appreciate hearing the team's thoughts.

Replying to @sufidyanov
the 12% goes to treasury will 100% used for cake buybacks, apart from the 3 stable coin for daily operation. The Flip will not change Cake buyback
I'm very enthusiastic about new flip Proposals.
But for Real, we should aligned Protocols growth with Token holder long term interest.
Keeping same net mint reductions is primordial and non négociable point.
Urge team to take into consideration $Cake holder long term interest
New proposal: The Flip 🥞
LPs on PancakeSwap v3 and Infinity would keep 88% of swap fees, and CAKE emissions would be cut by ~69%

What would change:
🔹 LPs on v3 and Infinity keep 88% of swap fees, up from 66–68% on most pools, across all 11 chains
🔹 CAKE emissions drop from 22,500 to 7,000 per day, with those 7,000 going to the Pantry, our new ecosystem growth fund
🔹 v2 stays the same and keeps burning CAKE, so CAKE stays deflationary
Reason I'm totally in favor of such flip
1/ tokenomic drop of 69% cut of $Cake emission would instantly supporting net supply reduction. Keep pushing deflation even with new tokenomic
2/ free economy, shouldn't bride protocols Growth for $cake price sake. But with emissions cut we would still keep high deflation, so trade would be neutral or even better reductions.
3/ more reward for lp / market market , would push dex volume even high for metric , data value. Which tbh is something very good marketing wise.
4/ @PancakeSwap has long been struggling because of fees redistribution to their user , which would make protocols less attractive for people who provide liquidity, usability for protocols. Now with such new tokenomic, push for more volume more thanks liquidity provider and market maker getting more interest for using Pancakeswap.
5/ difficulty in defi is attracting liquidity. This move would let Pancakeswap more competitive on défi Space, and with emissions cut by 69% we should see deflation keep going or higher.
So conclusion: this Flip is economically very positive.

For Venus, the opportunity goes beyond expanding vault distribution. 🌐
CCIP Vault Adapters can create a simpler path for liquidity across supported chains to reach the broader Venus ecosystem, while keeping core liquidity, risk management, and governance unified.
As Venus continues to build products such as Venus Vaults and Liquidity Hub, reducing the friction between where liquidity sits and where it can be put to work is an important part of improving capital efficiency.
