While we wait for the OpenAI slop storm, here is some open-source Yang-Mills slop! github.com/ethanwsussman/Yan… Ethan Sussman and @__alpoge__ are completing/clarifying Balaban's existence program for 4d Yang-Mills. For now they have Levent-style slop. The goal is to get a readable PDF and I'm told everyone is welcome to participate. The repo is public.

We’re releasing a broad range of new mathematical results produced by an internal frontier model. We’ve been consulting with the independent Advisory Group on Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence at the Institute for Advanced Study, and we have drawn on their advice and public recommendations to inform how we release these results. github.com/openai/math

Many mathematicians are rather childlike, unworldly in some sense, but Grothendieck more than most. He just seemed like an innocent—not very sophisticated, no pretense, no sham. He thought very clearly and explained things very patiently, without any sense of superiority. He wasn’t contaminated by civilization or power or one-up-manship. -- John Tate

Well... AI seems to have the upper hand there too

Long time ago my son created this artistic impression of a mathematician at work (me, in this case).

Mathematics is no more about theorems than architecture is about concrete or other building materials

We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies. These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve. We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop. This is transparent writing from Yoshua Bengio, Turing award winning computer scientist using (in the spirit of Friedman) "as if" reasoning to analyze the incentives the current training paradigm is creating for agents, the risks that we are running, and the need for a new paradigm. Beautifully crafted. This is urgent and true. We need to stop and rethink. yoshuabengio.org/en/publicat…
