🇧🇩 FORMAL APPEAL TO THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF BANGLADESH End the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic representation in Dhaka. Recognize a Pahlavi-led Iranian transitional authority. To Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs @BDMOFA: Iran is not the Islamic Republic. The Iranian people must not be confused with the regime that claims to represent them. Iran and Bangladesh established diplomatic relations in 1974, during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Iran opened its embassy in Dhaka in 1975, years before the establishment of the Islamic Republic. The diplomatic relationship between our nations predates the Islamic Republic. It belongs to the people and histories of Iran and Bangladesh, not to any particular regime. Under Article 48(3) of Bangladesh’s Constitution, the President generally exercises constitutional functions in accordance with the Prime Minister’s advice. Articles 4 and 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations establish procedures concerning the acceptance of ambassadors and the declaration of diplomatic representatives as persona non grata. Bangladesh also retains its sovereign authority to determine its diplomatic relations and the political authorities it recognizes. We formally call upon the Government of Bangladesh to: End the Islamic Republic’s diplomatic representation in Dhaka and withdraw acceptance of its diplomatic representatives through the appropriate legal procedures. Recognize a Pahlavi-led Iranian transitional authority under Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi as the legitimate representation of Iran. Bangladesh’s diplomatic relationship with Iran began before the Islamic Republic. Its future should not be defined by that regime.
