I think that rationally ignorant, time constrained normie homebuyers see contemporary architecture/design and (mostly correctly) understand it to be a shorthand for, "great, it'll have all the usual modern amenities, no major safety or maintenance issues, etc."

I remember walking around Walter Gropius' original development from 1925 (!) and being struck by how spacious and well-built everything felt compared to the 1980s mock-georgian house where I lived. It's good architecture!

It always blows my mind that the German architect Walter Gropius who co-designed the (then) PanAm Building in New York was born in 1883. He was 20 when the Wright brothers did their first flight, 25 when Model T was first produced... And somehow drew this.

I live right next to the US embassy in London. They built an actual moat around it. Who builds a moat around their embassy? Countries that do bad things and expect retaliation. Or countries who do diplomacy as if we’re in the Middle Ages.
