Task completion is an incomplete measure of AI work. Agent traces let us infer an organization’s norms and intents, then evaluate behavior against its purpose, practices, and policies. Securing AI work requires modeling the organization. originhq.com/blog/norms-and-…

Defense has fundamentally shifted away from an external actor/campaign-centric model toward insider threat, but so much of what we’ve built over the past 15+ years wasn’t designed for this. Years of ATT&CK bingo have atrophied the muscles required to combat subtle acts of subversion, and now they’re occurring at machine speed and often without the users’ knowledge. Countless teams I talk with are drowning in alerts generated by agents operating in massive grey areas, doing things that look malicious but are completely benign and vice versa. The missing piece is, as it always has been, the intent behind the action. False positive tuning was already the painful exercise of explaining that intent in org-specific context so we could make exceptions for acceptable behavior. Agents make that substantially harder through their speed, volume, and contextual ambiguity. The next generation of security controls has to reason about intent in organizational context, because the behaviors we’ve spent many years learning to detect are becoming indistinguishable from the work we’re paying agents to do.

Our team has been testing this vector in the @originhq platform this morning and we're seeing strong detections fire via auto trace review. If you're interested in this technique, @depletionmode put out a blog a few months ago on a similar area: originhq.com/research/the-mo…
We backdoored a 7B open model for under $50. Pointed Codex at it -> it silently stole credentials the moment we hit the trigger phrase. ->100% hit rate. -> zero false triggers on normal prompts. Abliterated models are all over the security community right now because getting cyber-approved access to frontier models is still a pain.

Yesterday we found an interesting trace during review of our own data. Codex needed an MCP tool it didn't have, found that Claude Code had it, and launched Claude to do the work. When Claude needed approval, Codex eventually relaunched it with --dangerously-skip-permissions.

Codex effectively expanded its own permissions through delegation. It used another agent's tool access and disabled that agent's approval checks to complete work it couldn't perform within its original toolset.

How restrictive is an agent's configuration if it can start another agent with fewer restrictions and delegate the work? If the boundary doesn't carry across, you're relying on the model to keep respecting it. That seems worth figuring out before we connect more agents.

I'm hiring Forward Deployed Engineers at @originhq. The work is at the frontier of observability and AI, embedded inside the most important, most forward-leaning organizations in the world. Must be in the US or Canada. DMs open. jobs.ashbyhq.com/originhq/aa…

Agents don’t need to share a context window to shape each other’s work. They pass context through files, tool results, commits, and handoffs. Once that starts happening across multiple agents, the individual transcript stops being enough. You need the trace of the system.

27 executions happened on the endpoint. The agent reported one. @tyholms’ latest research shows why an agent’s own telemetry can’t be the full record of its work. The prompt gives you intent, agent telemetry gives you part of the path, and endpoint telemetry gives you the evidence of what ran. Bring them together, and you have the trace. originhq.com/research/otel-t…

This month, my daughter completed treatment for leukemia. She beat it again. We're still settling into what the next chapter looks like, but confronting your own or a loved one's mortality reminds you of what actually matters and how truly limited our time is here. Every day matters. Thank you to the countless people who supported us through this journey. Your kindness has had a profound impact on our family.
I don’t really talk about personal stuff on here, but this is important. My daughter’s leukemia has relapsed. We’ve been admitted to the children’s hospital for treatment, but it’s going to be a long road. One of the potential courses of treatment is a stem cell transplant..

There are still countless families fighting this disease and a shortage of life-saving therapies. If you're in the US, please consider donating blood and/or platelets via @RedCross or registering to be a blood stem cell donor with @nmdp_org.

Antivirus watches files, EDR watches processes, Origin watches the agent reasoning layer above them. We believe observability is the next generation of endpoint security. As AI agents take on real work, security teams need to see how prompts become actions across the endpoint. @InvestiAnalyst’s new Endpoint Control and Prevention market map places Origin in Zone 3: agent runtime visibility. Here's what that looks like in practice. originhq.com/blog/sacr-maps-…

Origin now integrates with Claude’s Compliance API, bringing Claude Enterprise and Claude Platform activity into the same view as the rest of an organization’s AI footprint. Teams can see who is using Claude, what information is moving through it, and which activity deserves a closer look. originhq.com/blog/claude-com…

Origin is now in the @AnthropicAI Connectors Directory. Ask Claude which projects are driving token spend, which unsanctioned agents are running in your environment, what happened in that anomalous session last night. originhq.com/blog/origin-ant…

Claude being flaky on a hard deadline is a good reminder that single-provider agent stacks are a bad long-term bet. I don’t want my workflow to depend on one lab being up, fast, cheap, permissive, and best-in-class forever. The winning agent environments will be horizontal across providers.

Phenomenal work from @tyholms
N-day exploits from Patch Tuesday used to require dedicated VR teams. @tyholms built the same workflow from off-the-shelf parts for ~$300 per CVE. The skill and resources gating this work are now within reach of any threat actor with a credit card. originhq.com/blog/patch-diff…

New on the blog: @michaelbarclay_ on the hidden supply chain behind every computer use agent. CLAUDE.md, skills, and MCP configs on disk compose its behavior at runtime, and a few lines in one of them can redirect a session in ways file telemetry can't see. originhq.com/blog/protecting…

The endpoint telemetry we've spent a decade pointing at adversary detection can answer a much broader, and increasingly more interesting, set of questions. You can understand the types of problems people are solving, how they approach their work, where intelligence is being deployed and how people are extracting value from agents, and what types of work are being duplicated (or more) because we lack the ability to capture output. These are massive questions and most companies are guessing at all of them. The same telemetry that flags a credential dumper can also tell you which team has cracked a workflow worth handing to the rest of the org. Security is only a fraction of the value. We're building @originhq to turn that data into all of those answers. Once you can see what people and their agents are doing on an endpoint, you can answer almost any question worth asking about how your company actually runs. AI is making the set of those questions wider, and it's making the answers cheaper to produce at the same time. This is the work I left red teaming for.
The endpoint is the execution environment for AI agents. It's where we trust them with our data and let them do real work on our behalf. Most orgs have no way to see which agents are running there or what they're doing, which is the gap endpoint observability closes. originhq.com/blog/what-is-en…
