My mama raised me not to curse but #climate scientists & journalists are out of f*cks to give on “no return” frame: “To be frank, the paper is crap that should not have passed any competent peer review,” Zeke Hausfather, a climate scientist and energy systems analyst, said.
i spoke with climate scientists about that flashy, new study that says climate change has reached the "point of no return" & we need carbon capture. they say it's bullshit (in not so many words) earther.gizmodo.com/climate-…

Are you doing science or math?
Did a stray raccoon *possibly* invalidate your results:
If no: math

maybe i'm jumping too far in topic but the below reminds me, someone once pointed out that you need private communication to have journalism, but with private communication comes free sharing of copyrighted content
intellectual property and civic engagement cannot coexist, oops

“turned down a federal judge’s order” = breaking the law with both pinkies up

let's take a moment to appreciate the irony of getting an automated copyright claim on a video about fair use

ALT Hi Casey Fiesler, A copyright owner using Content ID has claimed some material in your video. As a result, your video has been blocked in some countries. This means that your video is still up on YouTube, but people in some countries may not be able to watch it. This is not a copyright strike. This claim does not affect your account status. Video title: Fair Use Explained (and why copyright online is hard) Copyrighted content: Violet Claimed by: SME, UMG

Happy to have helped worked on this. We dive into the boogaloo movement, their memes and aesthetics.
Shout out to @wphillips49 and @rmmilner’s deep memetic frames, which we reference in the article.
New investigation:
Leaked Discord chats from the Boogaloo group 'Patriotwave' show the group has deep ties to the US military and embraces racist, fascist ideology.

my understanding is, this is why music educators cannot reference the music they are trying to educate you on without demonetizing their video -- they have the right via fair use to quote, but as actual humans they can't afford to sue the robots necessary to exercise those rights
Replying to @xor
A lot of platforms go beyond the DMCA §512's requirements, for various reasons. Youtube, for example, spent tons of resources developing Content ID, in large part to improve its relationship with major rightsholders. Nothing like Content ID is required by law, but they do it.
i get so wildly angry about fair use getting stomped on -- the working lives of educators, librarians, archivists made worse for having the gall to create value that is orthogonal to profit

As anyone who has used youtube-dl knows, it is an extremely powerful and useful tool for format-shifting. It's super popular among archivists and has incredibly broad fair use applications. The RIAA stance here is pretty aggressive and out there.

Again—we’re in this situation b/c our nation refuses to prioritize public health despite having resources & forewarning to prevent catastrophe. We’re allowing 400K+ ppl to die by early 2021 instead of providing needed housing, healthcare & $ just to preserve a class structure.
