MCP 2026-07-28 shipped. The headline is real: the protocol core is stateless.
No initialize handshake, no Mcp-Session-Id. Every request self-describes, so any call can land on any instance behind a plain round-robin LB. No shared session store, no sticky routing.

Auth got hardened too. RFC 9207 issuer validation, credentials bound to the issuer that minted them, and DCR formally deprecated in favor of CIMD. Plus a 12-month minimum deprecation window, so upgrades are plannable instead of reactive.

Of everything in this ecosystem, Inspector was the one tool most in need of a revamp. Instead it's a massive backslide. Truly impressive to take something that bad and make it worse. 🤦♂️
