UGX - second worst performing currency in the world after Iraq’s dinar 😳😳😳
When we say that the Pearl is consistently listed among failed states, some regime propagandists come here to quarrel. Can you quickly gather today? The shilling is mainly suffering from 3 broad issues:
1. Global factors (fuel, wars)
2. Health factors (Ebola affecting tourism)
3. Bad politics (fiscal indiscipline, human rights violations, break down of rule of law, sovereignty act, excesses in NGO regulation, etc)
Without fixing the politics, forget about 10 fold growth, blah blah blah
Uganda is tapping its nearly $7 billion in reserves to lessen the blow of a plunging shilling, which is the world’s second-worst-performing currency this month after Iraq’s dinar. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

If William Ruto doesn't leave office next year, we might not only witness beheading of Asylum seekers like it happened in Uganda but we might also witness Livestreamed hanging of asylum seekers in Nairobi 😒

It's been an interesting weekend.
Former government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo went off on the regime's recent human rights record on #TheCapitalGang yesterday. You could feel the passion, anger & disenchantment of an elder in his voice.
Then a PLU lady says she returned barefoot from Mbale "City" bse she found some youth there who can't afford shoes on their own after 40-years of NRM & surely needed her shoes more than she did. Still in Mbale, Bebe Cool refused to be interviewed by a journalist who didn't have "proper shoes". All this is important bse PLU say they want to champion "Museveni's Thoughts" - the "thought" which has left so many Ugandans without shoes, that is.
Meanwhile, the PPST, @rggoobi who told Ugandans his economy would "whack" (some people say they heard "work") went on radio wearing a designer "New York" cap to tell Ugandans to live like the poverty the regime dug them into and stop eating spaghetti & fried food. He didn't ask the same austerity of his bloated regime that has 529 MPs, 83 cabinet Ministers, 250 presidential advisors, organises state funerals worth billions every few weeks, & goes around ditching cars to bishops, traditional leaders & other people that otherwise could afford to buy their own cars. All this while Karamoja people starve to their death!
Then Museveni and Kamuntu seemed not to like any form of contact with poor lady from Sheema. They sat close to her, saw her, gave her an envelop with what seems like like, but didn't want to shake her dirty hand in the case of Museveni, or hug her in the case of Kamuntu. Did they think she was carrying a disease? Was it that they thought her visible poverty would contaminate them?
Anyway, interesting weekend - but we are Ugandans, hope the week will be better than the weekend! ✌️

Meet Justice Kinobe, who dismissed the habeas corpus application for two Kenyan activists, saying the State could not produce people it claimed not to have and that you cannot squeeze blood from a stone.
Yet the activists were later released from a basement, and Museveni himself said they had been “in my fridge.”
Today, the same judge is handling Sam MUGUMYA’s case. The State again denies holding him, despite video footage showing him badly injured in a basement and unable to walk unaided. Will justice finally prevail for Sam?

UPDATE: Raymond Eden Asiku, one of the individuals who swore an affidavit in the habeas corpus case, has told court that he was detained at the same facility as Sam Mugumya, although he could not identify the location because he was blindfolded. Asiku says Mugumya was alive when they were held together, adding that he and others would help carry Mugumya because he was unable to walk on his own.

Habibi, an interesting contrast btn the @JudiciaryUG's handling of Brian Kirumira alias Brian White's case & @MaleMabiriziHKK's.
Brian is accused six serious counts: Aggravated human sacrifice, Manslaughter, Possession of narcotic drugs, Conspiracy to commit a felony, Giving false information to the police, Rash and negligent acts.
The facts before court are that Brian ritually killed a 25-year-old lady, Caroline Nalubwama, & then claimed she died as a result of cooking gas explosion. Caroline's family dispute the "cooking gas" claim saying some of her body parts were even missing, and there was bleeding on her body. Police investigation, while not conclusive, was consistent with claims made by Caroline's family. The police say Brian lied to them. Regardless, after 180 days of remand, Brian was - rightly - given bail to access medication. In this video, he is with his relatives (children?) recovering in a hospital.
Meanwhile, @MaleMabiriziHKK was arrested on two counts of "publishing false news" & operating his TikTok account without a license from UCC. Male has been in jail well beyond 180 days - & counting. When, after 180 days, he applied for bail, court - more like Winnie Nankya Jatiko - played pingpong for weeks. Then, granted him cash bail (unusual for mandatory bail) and asked that he deposit a passport he doesn't have with the court. When he told the court he didn't have a passport, the prosecutor called him "irresponsible", despite the fact that 97 per cent of Ugandans don't have a passport, to begin with!
The burden was put on Male to prove he doesn't have a passport. He wrote to the Ministry of Internal Affairs which wrote back in confirmation that he doesn't have a passport. Still, Male remains in jail!

The case has been adjourned to 9th Nov. the judge has given the state 2 weeks to conclude investigations about the whereabouts of Sam Mugumya and file a report before the 9th.
The state doesn’t need to conduct any investigations. It has Mugumya and they know where they are holding him, we have seen videos, witnesses have seen him, the CDF has admitted having him. What more are we looking for?
After appeals to the Principal Judge for reallocation, Sam Mugumya’s second bail application was moved from 17th Nov to today albeit before the same Judge, Kinobe. The state has already responded again, without any shame, denying having him in his custody or knowing his whereabout as the police officers illegally detaining and threatening @AloikinOpoloje told her! #FreeSamMugumya #JusticeForSamMugumya
