This week was the first time I’ve posted on X in more than two years.
I stopped posting on the app because I found myself becoming addicted to checking updates 24/7.
I was hoping this time around would be different, but I’m finding myself with the same addiction to constantly checking the app once again.
Two years ago I took a break from the app because it was taking too much of my time and focus away from the things that are actually important to me.
I have a very addictive personality and I’m either all in or all out. I was hoping to be able to have a more balanced relationship with X this time around but that’s just not happening.
Ever since making the first post recently I’ve been on this damn thing non stop.
I am once again going to take a break from the app, which means I’m deleting it from my phone and won’t be responding to any additional messages.
Hopefully my next attempt in the future will be more successful than this one.
Until next time I’m sending everyone much love.
While this current time brings more uncertainty than ever before with how fast technology is advancing and not to mention global conflicts I believe the world is in the early days of huge amounts of abundance and prosperity.
If there’s one message I can leave while I go on my next X hiatus it’s this:
Love is always the answer.
Love your self more.
Love your family more.
Love your friends more.
Love your neighbors more.
Love your enemy more.
I am sending you much love.

Airbnb is dead. Well it’s not dead but it’s going to be dying soon.
The Bear case for Airbnb.
I’ve been bullish on Airbnb as a company for many years. But my outlook on the business changed this week.
Let me tell you why.
In 2012 I purchased my first Airbnb property. Over the years that one property has turned into a portfolio of high-end Airbnb’s that generates almost $1M a month in rental income.
Using ai agents for the first time this week has completely changed my outlook on the company.
Airbnb is facing an existential threat that most of the market is completely missing.
With Airbnb pushing its mandatory host-side commission to 15.5%, the middleman tax has never been higher.
Enter AI agents. (Hark, Dot, Muse, Grok Bot, etc)
Right now, booking a vacation rental requires navigating a siloed app and paying heavy platform tolls.
But your AI agent won't care about Airbnb's brand wall. When you know the property you want to book and you ask it “what’s the cheapest way to book the property” it will query property management system APIs directly, find the exact same home, and execute a direct booking that saves everyone 15%.
Airbnb's entire model relies on holding supply captive behind a closed interface.
When AI agents can autonomously search, verify reviews, negotiate terms, and book direct with property operators, that walled garden turns into a leaking pipe.
The middleman tax's days are numbered.
I’m predicting that Airbnb’s growth rate will slow down significantly in the next 24 to 36 months. And within 5 years they will be seeing negative growth.
The same can be said for most other online marketplaces that don’t have unique inventory that can only be booked directly on their platform and nowhere else.
This post has gained some eyeballs 👀 so I want to make a follow up comment and add some more context.
- I like Airbnb as a platform. It’s a great product built by a bunch of great people.
- Hosts should not try to take bookings off platform. I am not promoting for anyone else to do this. We do not do this in our own business. You should always keep the booking on the platform it originated on. That platform brought you the customer, IMO it’s not ok to move the booking elsewhere to save money. The point I was trying to make is that I think guests are going to be the ones doing this to save money and so agents are going to make it effortless for them to do so.
- Airbnb will remain a viable company and platform and a large percentage of bookings will still continue to take place on platform. But slippage/breakage will increase.
- I do think Airbnb will face headwinds via more renters doing off platform bookings and eventual referral commissions which will inevitably need to be paid to LLM/agent companies. As soon as one platform does this the other will need to follow suit (VRBO/Airbnb)
- Airbnb has built an awesome product and I wish them nothing but success. My comment was simply an observation of some real headwinds I think they face.
- Other marketplaces will face some of the same headwinds. Airbnb is positioned better than others and will be less impacted than some. For example I think OTAs like Booking and Expedia will ultimately be much more negatively impacted because the spread they are currently taking from bookings will eventually go to the agent layer.
- All of this will take time to play out. We are at the very beginning of Ai agents making an impact and this is only one small area where they will make real impacts.
It took 3.5 years for 50% of the U.S. population to start using ai chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude.
It will take less than 12 months for 50% of the population to start using ai agents.
Ai agents are going to have a much quicker adoption cycle, because they provide far more value than chatbots.
Chatbots help you get an answer faster. Agents actually do stuff for you.
I have gotten more value from using ai agents in the last 2 weeks than I have from using chatbots over the last 3 years.
When I say Ai agents I’m referring to: Hark, Grok Bot, Muse, Dots, etc.
A very small % of the U.S. population currently uses ai agents. I think 50% of the population will be using agents to get things done for them within 12 months.
What short, medium and long term impacts do you see this having?
Church gives me a spiritual and emotional recharge. It’s time where I feel connected to god and connected to my parents who have passed away.
I feel more gratitude & peace when I attend church.
If you attend church, synagogue, temple, or mosque what does that time mean to you?
Tax extensions are due next week.
Every year, my CPA sends me a list of hundreds of uncategorized items right before the deadline.
Sorting them used to take me an entire day.
This year I handed it to @hark_labs — done in under 30 minutes.
ChatGPT in 2023 was the first time AI felt real to me.
Hark this week was the first time it felt like it was actually working for me.
The difference is wild.
One answers questions.
The other just… handles things.
Anyone else feel that shift this week?
I gave Hark, Claude, ChatGPT, and Kimi the exact same prompt.
Hark delivered the best result, in half the time.
Seriously impressive, @adcock_brett
First 24 hours using Hark @hark_labs :
→ Archived 113,244 promo emails
→ Unsubscribed me from 160+ senders
→ Ordered my new Tesla
→ Built my to-do lists with daily reminders
→ Put live Stripe MRR on my home screen
→ Set follow-ups with my domain broker
Massive productivity unlock.
First time Ai blew my mind was using ChatGPT when it launched. Second time Ai blew my mind was using Hark the last 24 hours.

My mom gave me a beautiful gift when she died and she didn’t even know she was giving it to me.
It’s something that you can give to your loved ones when your time is up.
My mom‘s final resting place on earth is in Santa Barbara on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It’s one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world.
Every year, my family and I come here to celebrate her birthday and spend time together.
The annual trip is something I cherish.
I’ve developed somewhat of a ritual.
The morning of her birthday I get huevos rancheros at Chad's Café which was previously Sambo's.
After breakfast, I’ll ride a bicycle down the boardwalk along the ocean, watching the kids playing in the sand and the adults playing volleyball on the beach.
I’ll ride over to Lily‘s flowers and get a bouquet of carnations for my mom.
Next, I’ll bike over to the cemetery and spend a few hours sitting with her going through photos of the last 12 months. I’ll share stories and tell her about all the different things that have happened in the last year.
Later in the day the rest of my family will join me at her grave and we all sing happy birthday to her.
That evening we will have a beautiful dinner together as a family.
My mom didn’t know this, but by her selecting the cemetery in Santa Barbara she has given me and my family a reason to visit this beautiful place every year and spend quality time connecting as a family.
The annual trip to visit my mom at her grave is something I cherish immensely.
Selecting your final resting place here on earth has more to do with your loved ones, than it does with yourself.
The gift of giving your loved ones somewhere beautiful to come together and visit as a family every year is something that can live beyond you and create memories for them for years to come.
What's better than a private jet?
A tour bus.
I had to go visit one of our properties in Paso Robles.
Last time I visited this property I chartered a jet, this time I chartered a tour bus.
The bus was a fraction of the cost and a better experience.
Door to door pick up and drop off. You can work, relax, or sleep the whole time.

Who's interested?
When I lived in Ohio, there was a mysterious young kid I heard about who built one of the largest websites on the internet without any employees.
He lived in a big house, drove a fancy car and lived a couple towns over from me.
He started several Internet companies, and it seemed like everything he touched, turned to gold.
All of this as a one-man show. No employees. He was like a legend in my small town circle of entrepreneurs.
This successful entrepreneur from Ohio eventually moved to New York and then California.
After many years of hearing about him, I finally got the opportunity to meet him in person not that long ago.
His name is Scott Delong and he is the real deal.
Scott is one of the best at building “lifestyle businesses”.
A business that doesn’t require employees and throws off a ton of cash flow.
Scott recently put out a masterclass and opened up his playbook for the first time.
If you have any interest in building a lifestyle business online, I’d suggest checking out Scott’s stuff. It’s good and he is the real deal.
