PS I’ve met Putin many times and listened in on calls with him as well. I also speak Russian. Yes he is soft spoken, deliberate, and measured. So what? He’s still a killer. He still launched a barbaric invasion of Ukraine, that has produced tragic loss of life not seen on this scale in Europe since WWII.
Vance: "I've never met Putin in person. I've spoken to him on the phone. He was calmer than you might expect. The American media has a stereotype of him. He's very deliberate and measured in his words. I think, at his core, he's someone who cares about Russia's interests as he sees them. One reason he respects the President is that he recognizes the President cares about the interests of the American people."

Trump has now firmly allied the United States with an imperial dictatorship. Tragic, embarrassing, and not in Americas national interest. Thankfully, the US is still a democracy, and not a monarchy. Hopefully that fact will allow us as country to change these imprudent policies.
BREAKING: WASHINGTON (AP) — Trump puts new Russia sanctions passed by Congress on hold, saying a waiver is in the US national interest.

At this point the whole EU Inc negotiations are so lost in the details that everyone forgot the main goal: Creating a standard. Basically, allow founders to raise quickly globally and use stock options to hire competitively. Let’s say it quite clearly: 1) If EU Inc isn’t providing a standard it’s useless. We already got 30+ legal entities in Europe. Experienced founders use Delaware Inc already because of this. 2) If EU Inc doesn’t fix stock options Delaware Inc is still the better option. I understand the there are complex details and people are worried about loopholes. But you can’t lose the actual goal of it because of it. An EU Inc that doesn't provide a standard is pointless. Nobody will care about intricacies of compromises reached in political committees if the market can't use the outcome. If you are in contact with your political leaders (prime ministers, presidents, et al) please reach out to them. Or to founders/investors in your network who might have that access. 🔥🇪🇺✌️ xitter.cf/euinc_petition/status/…
Europe’s founders need a European standard to compete globally from day one. Europe’s leaders committed to delivering one. But their teams are negotiating away the very things that make it one. There is still time to change course if Europe's Heads of State step in now.

It was a pleasure to welcome EU Commissioner @EUCssrMcGrath to @stripe's Dublin HQ this morning for a timely conversation on European competitiveness ahead of the EU AI Summit. As AI changes how companies form, grow and reach global markets, Europe needs to ensure it is a leading location to start and scale an ambitious business. Now is the moment to build on that dialogue, for Europe's founders and investors to make their voices heard across European capitals and help shape an ambitious EU Inc. proposal that enables European businesses to grow and scale. @euinc_petition

Delighted to have met with An Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD alongside @andreasklinger, @_iwonabiernat and @vojtechcz, the co-leads of the EU Inc petition @euinc_petition EU Inc is a real opportunity to make Europe a better place to start, build and scale a business. Today, founders still have to navigate fragmented company-law, fundraising and employee-equity systems as they expand across the Single Market. The ambition should be one trusted European company standard that makes it easier for companies to raise capital, reward employees and scale across borders from day one. With Ireland holding the Presidency of the Council of the EU, this is a vital opportunity to help broker the compromises needed to preserve that ambition.

It is time. This needs to happen now.
European capitals should now stop talking and instead seize Russian assets in Euroclear to expedite funding to Ukraine Lots of thinking has been done on how to overcome Belgium's opposition. Those plans should now be put in place

No president in American history has ever sided so passionately and shamelessly with an imperial dictator like Putin and derided so militantly a democratic leader like Zelenskyy. Reagan would be appalled.

Today, the U.S. is sanctioning the ICC and doing a deal with Putin who faces an ICC arrest warrant.
Today, the Trump Administration is sanctioning the ICC. This action should encourage our Allies within the Court to work for solutions to end this threat to U.S. sovereignty forever.

Good Will Hunting picked the wrong prodigy - the guy in the Chevy was the genius all along
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models “I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that. “With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor. “You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something. “That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’ “I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”

Open Standard, $OUSD, is now live! Open Standard is a new USD stablecoin with a very large network of participating partners (joinopenstandard.com/partner…). It's designed to be exceptionally secure, reliable, and developer-friendly. Importantly, most yield is shared directly with partners rather than being internalized by the stablecoin issuer. Stripe is adopting OUSD in a number of core product flows.
$OUSD is live. Build with OUSD via @Coinbase @Mastercard @Stripe and @Visa. Each integration path supports 1:1 USD conversion at no cost. Read the announcement: joinopenstandard.com/blog/ou….

"The act of writing tends to be painful, even for many of those who do it for a living. But much of that pain is really the pain of thinking, of crystallising thoughts in text. Sidestepping that is a sure-fire route to less rigorous, let alone original, human thought."
New @TheEconomist leader from me on the perils of AI writing—and why readers, not writers, are the victims to worry about. (Link ⬇️)

Some data we recently assembled on entrepreneurship/compute in Europe: eudata.vercel.app. We hope that one of the useful roles that Stripe can play is in collecting and publishing empirical data pertaining to entrepreneurship and industry in Europe. There's growing appetite to get Europe on a better footing, and cross-sectional comparisons can often shine light on where opportunities lie. If you're interested in this kind of thing, we publish more at stripeeconomics.substack.com.
