The Rise of Hitler: A History of How Democracy Fell in Germany and Its Parallels to Today
🧵1/11: His past was steeped in scandal—a felon, accused of treason and sedition, his actions and rhetoric frequently straddling the line of legality. He was convicted for attempting to overthrow the government, yet this criminal history didn’t disqualify him.
It only made him more appealing to those who viewed the establishment as corrupt and broken. Instead of disqualifying him, his criminal record and charges became part of his defiant charm, painting him as an outsider willing to fight the system.
Every accusation, every charge of treason, only fueled his rise, showing his supporters that he could not be tamed and was the only one willing to challenge the powers that had held the nation in their grip.

During a time when border crossings are the lowest that they have been in a long time, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott decides to create a humanitarian crisis with cruel and inhumane treatment of humans during record heat waves with razor wire.
Migrants who are exhausted and ready to drop are being pushed back into the Rio Grande, at the risk of drowning.
- a 19-year old pregnant migrant was trapped in razor wire, causing her to miscarry
- a 4-year old girl fainted after being "pressed back" by Texas National Guard soldiers
- a 15-year old migrant broke his leg after he and his father attempted to cross an unsafe part of the river because the razor wire was even more unsafe
These are NOT enemy combatants. They are mostly women and children seeking asylum from deadly gang violence. These are human beings.
There are 2 distinctly different sets of sounds reacting to these inhumane stories:
Democrats: *gasps of horror*
Republican: *lusty cheers of USA, USA*
Nobody doubts that immigration is a problem that needs solving.
But we don't have to lose our humanity with these cruel, inhumane, barbaric methods.
America MUST be better than that.

Tobacco store on 17th Ave and Geary smashed and burglarized last night. The owner, Bashir, an Afghani immigrant, said the 5 perps in 2 cars cleaned out his store stealing over $100k of products.
When we spoke, he had tears in his eyes he described how SF has turned into a 3rd world country, “just like Afghanistan” he said. He has tried to press his concerns to city hall “but no one in the city listens”.
So wrong of the newest twitter owner to allow this to happen.

I said this a while back, and I’m going to say it again. It’s that important. You can argue it, if you like, but, it won’t change the truth of what I say.
Whether Fani Willis or Jack Smith indict, prosecute and convict Donald Trump before, or after the election…it doesn’t matter. Not in the grand scheme of things.
If Donald Trump fell over dead today, do you actually think the GOP is going to snap back into a 1980 republican party? If so, you are delusional.
The structure is now in place, and, in Trump’s absence, there are others who would quickly move to fill the vacuum created by Trump’s departure. They have decided on the path they are going to take, and they are going to stay on that path, with….or without Donald Trump.
We have to grasp this. The failure to do so comes with the potential for serious consequences.
Donald Trump is no longer THE problem. That window closed quickly. Now, he is merely a part of the problem. Collectively, though, the radicalized GOP is a BIG problem.
Look, my deep desire to see Trump prosecuted and convicted is driven by a simple fact: like many of you, I just fucking hate this guy. I want to see his orange punk ass brought to justice.
However, I don’t, for one second….think that Trump is THE problem we must tackle. The problem to overcome…is the GOP and the fascism that is now woven through it. The GOP supports Trump. They defend Trump. Trump is NOTHING without them. The GOP….is the problem.
We must vote. We must donate. We must break records with everything we do. More money than ever before. More people casting their votes than ever before. Overkill. Do it all on a level of ethical and moral extremism. It has to be.
So, while we all want to see Trump’s ass in an orange jump suit, his conviction doesn’t end the threat to democracy. We’re way beyond that. The GOP is the threat to democracy, now, and for the foreseeable future.
The GOP….is what we have to dismantle. Dismantle, as in take it DOWN with our votes, support and donations. Over, and over…and over again.

Literally none of this would be happening if white Democrats had voted like Black women in 2016. Hillary Clinton warned you about the courts, about Roe and about Trump and his racism, criminality and affinity for dictators. Turns out Hillary was right about everything.
