I hope someday there'll be another Eden Prairie News, and that a young writer has as much fun working on it as I did. Here's what I wrote about the newspaper being shut down this week: bit.ly/2VGwZxv
Good intent here, but it ignores the many, many community newspapers that provide news closest to home: what's happening at city hall, local schools, etc.
Local news is a vital resource — it is critical to the safety, security and knowledge of our communities, never more so than in these difficult times. We encourage you to find a local news outlet you trust and support it. #worldpressfreedomday nytimes.com/interactive/2020…

It’s a sad day for my hometown. Today, the final edition of the Eden Prairie News was delivered to my house. For as long as I’ve lived at home, it’s been a weekly tradition to page through this paper.
This NY Times opinion piece seems all the more revelant today, as Eden Prairie residents receive their final edition of the @EdenPrairieNews

Important to get this discussion started: Is journalism a want or a need?
A healthy democracy requires strong journalism. But U.S. markets can’t support in the way they need to. s.hbr.org/2wOvXp6

Waiting for that correlated 2008-2018 study showing rapid decline in American IQ.
Between 2008 and 2018, newsroom employment in the US declined by 25%, with the newspaper industry seeing the largest decline, declining 47% during the same time period. pewrsr.ch/2Y9phy4

However, "prepare to panic" is an entirely appropriate response.
Not panicking, just recognizing that Cleveland is an MLB-best 16-7 in June and cutting into the Twins' lead. bringmethenews.com/minnesota…
One of the all-time greats when it comes to ironies.
Facebook says its effort to provide users with local news is being hindered by a lack of original reporting. U.S. newsroom employment has declined by 45 percent as the industry struggles with a broken business model partly caused by Facebook's success. apne.ws/W2O1TOz
I am here to categorically deny that anyone was duped or bribed to influence my admission to Bemidji State University in 1973.
Hard to envision a change in this trend until the public recognizes that democracy is at stake. All news should be free? No, my friends. It doesn't work that way.

Looking forward to that new fall football classic: Army vs. Space.
President Donald Trump launched the Pentagon's new Space Command Tuesday, an effort to better organize and advance the military's vast operations in space that could cost as much as $800 million over the next five years.
