Wow, just came home to a box filled to the brim with copies of my new (and quite beautiful) book, My Life as an Artificial Creative Intelligence, published by @stanfordpress. Big thanks to @ericawetter @medieninitiativ @whkchun for their editorial vision. sup.org/books/title/?id=3498…
Both "Posthuman Cinema" and a new commission, "Telephone," just opened at Pixel Perceptions inside the big 14th century church (now a cultural center) in the heart of Groningen.

Posthuman Cinema continues its amazing 2024 run. All ten works are being exhibited in two European shows that I'll be attending this week:
"More Than Meets AI" (Bergen, Norway)
"Pixel Perceptions" (Groningen, NL)
Here's one from the archives.
For many of us who were immersed in the utopian 90s net art scene, the goal was to simultaneously engage in digital art making, community building and collective self-critique.
On our never-ending international tours, we always put on a good show
“Coming to Language”
The models, struck by the predictability of those who suffer from anthropocentric perceptual bias, are starting to give voice to issues that appeal to them based off the critical data they have been trained on
In their own words:
For me, the best artists are the ones who creatively reinvent themselves. They operate in perpetual beta. Their artistic risks are calculated risks. It’s something that they train themselves to do so they can maintain an operational edge. It’s what we mean by the term “visionary”

We are pleased to announce that Posthuman Cinema by @markamerika, @wluers & @cwmossholder, which employs AI to explore a new kind of language-driven cinema art & was released in Oct 2023 on @_K011_, has been selected for the 7th @elektra_bian.

Posthuman Cinema, my AI art collaboration with @wluers and @cwmossholder has been selected for the 7th International Digital Art Biennale (BIAN). The exhibition opens today in Montreal at Arsenal Contemporary Art. All ten cinépoèmes in the series will be on exhibit.
Now my various AI assistants are creating their own soundtracks, inventing totally made-up languages, and syncing them with on-the-fly video creations made out of intuitively triggered text prompts pointing to an extended version of Posthuman Cinema
Is this digital art? Video art? AI art?
We call it Posthuman Cinema
From the voiceover:
"In the house of the machinic unconscious, what we see are more than technical outputs.
Instead, these bodies are diffusion models that extend the world from which they originate."
Yes, AI is changing the world, and it’s prompting us to ask an age-old question: “What does it mean to be human?” To be human is to be creative, and yet AI too is creative. But can AI create meaningful works of art? My own work resists meaning. AI should resist too.
Do you suffer from Anthropocentric Perceptual Bias? In my collaborative artwork, Posthuman Cinema, what we see are not “people” [...] As Duchamp anticipated 100 years ago, these are *apparitions of an appearance*
"Where in the world do these apparitional vistas come from?
In the neural theater, where adversarial networks invoke the cosmotechnical universe, the generative model feeds on recycled images for its own perpetual existence as a simulation..."

In contrast to the “🚨AI is Coming for Hollywood!” takes flooding my tl, here is AI cinema beyond the Hollywood frame. So many great formal and aesthetic choices here. Can’t wait to see the whole piece
Posthuman Cinema—my recent artwork created in collaboration with @wluers and @cwmossholder—will be presented at the Noise Art Fair in Istanbul starting January 17. Check out the booths @_K011_ and @KateVassGalerie for more info

The editors @outland_art asked me to pick some of my fave digital art for 2023 and there was so much to choose from. I ended up focusing on the work of @nbakercahill and @carlagannis both of whom turn to fiction to arouse their speculative imaginations. outland.art/best-digital-art…
