No10 manning the barricades tonight as calls from Labour MPs for Keir Starmer to quit grow louder. Downing Street rolling out cabinet loyalists and former Labour general secretaries pledging their loyalty to the PM. Will any big beasts break cover and demand he stand down? Doesn't feel like it at the moment.

NEW: Chair of the NEC Shabana Mahmood says Andy Burnham is a “fantastic mayor for Greater Manchester” and she “really appreciated” his letter to her yesterday, which was written in a “fair-minded way”. “I play these things with a straight bat.” Her lips are sealed for now.

Burnham's allies have in the past few weeks been ramping up efforts to clear a path back to Westminster. I'm told they've been ringing round soft-left members of the NEC to check if they have the numbers to let him run for a seat. thetimes.com/uk/politics/art…

The legal advice to the BBC I am told is that President Trump was not meaningfully damaged by Panorama’s manipulation of his 6 January speech, and that therefore there is no legal necessity to pay him compensation. The BBC board is therefore likely to resist and fight his demand to be “appropriately compensated” out of court, and will risk him carrying through on his threat to seek $1bn in damages by going to court.

If I was the British government, I would be rather worried about this chart; very, very worried. UK natural gas has now breached the equivalent to $40 per million Btu barrier (~300 pence per therm). In oil terms, it's now trading above $230 per barrel of oil equivalent.
