The most correct take on AI coding agents I have seen. You may not like it, but this is the truth of the matter.
And this is EXACTLY why its taken so long for @convex to tackle local-first!
@robelestifanos_ really has done an impressive thing here, read all about it in his long writeup on his 6 month journey in search of the holy grail:

just found out people can smell their food while eating and i've apparently been tasting in black and white for 25 years

We just launched Shopify Editions Winter 2026 🎨
Here's the technical breakdown of how we built it 🧵

SVG icons have been "solved" myriad ways, but I find them all lacking.
Inline SVGs? Bloated DOM.
<img> tags? Can't change colors.
Icon fonts? Blurry at certain sizes, a11y issues.
CSS background-image? Still can't change colors.
But, today there's actually a perfect solution...

For American exceptionalism, I decided to fund this in its entirety.
Chinese research is close behind, if not already ahead of the US. Language barrier makes the knowledge transfer one sided.
Time to stop assuming China cannot innovate.
There's an entire parallel scientific corpus most western researches never see.
Today i'm launching chinarxiv.org, a fully automated translation pipeline of all Chinese preprints, including the figures, to make that available.

Replying to @VitalikButerin
Yaaaaaaaaa tyyyyy Vitalik saaaaan! We're aaalmost there 💃💛
First year we focused on shipping fast and improving the app publicly through people's amazing feedback/requests! This helped us improve the UX, keep small fileverse ship motivated, while making the trust minimized middleware reliable and feel as smooth as what people are used to in web2.
We'll be connecting the dots next year w/ two new related apps, built on the exact same middleware AAAAAND have the middleware ready as SDKs to make it much easier for anyone to build their own apps, confidently, on/with the same guarantees.
🍓NB, since I'm hyped about ur tweet and fresh in my head: there's a growing global movement, touching both people and governments, looking to rid itself of over-reliance on big tech services (that keep spying and breaking) for collaborative activities that are essential to them. Some do it for privacy, others for security, others for political reasons, etc. The solution is neither more cloud nor revert to only self-hosting. On the fileverse ship we're convinced that the tech that has gone into making censorship-resistant payments and smart contracts is what is needed to serve this growing, non-financial movement for Internet Freedom. It just needs a biiit more work!

We're excited to announce our updated MonadBFT protocol with fast recovery and leader fault isolation. Key result: 2x faster recovery from single leader failure (1.6s → 800ms), maintaining all original properties and security guarantees.
