Our final speaker is Prof Stembridge. He will discuss the application of heat stress as a practical alternative and/or adjunct to altitude training to enhance endurance performance, while minimising the logistical, financial and environmental costs.
Dr Kelly McNulty’s talk, ‘The menstrual cycle, hormonal contraception and sports performance’ will review potential effects of the menstrual cycle & contraception on performance, training, and recovery, acknowledging current evidence and gaps in the literature.
Dr Andrew Mitchell will be presenting ‘Myths, Mistakes and Measured Management’. He examines patterns specific to marathon training and highlights practical principles that can be applied to mitigate injury risk and allow training adaptations to be strategically supported.
Introducing Professor Halsey. His talk, ‘Are we built for distance running?’ will use comparative physiology to reveal how human athleticism compares to other mammals. He’ll share data from long distance races & reveal a unique human trait that makes us supreme distance athletes
Introducing our first speaker, Dr Nishan Guha. His talk ‘Fuel, Fix or Risk?’ will aim to help runners, coaches, sports medics and scientists to understand the potential benefits and risks relating to supplement and hormone use in endurance sport.
