Another hidden gem in the Reuters drop of Anthropic's financials... the company "plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming year, according to the prospectus." Just a casual mention of raising half a trillion in a single year, really? Does anyone believe this? Let's say they pull $100B in equity from the IPO... and then what, $400B from the debt markets? That's more than the entire junk bond issuance in all of 2025. JFC this bubble is cooked.

ANTHROPIC FILES FOR IPO, PROSPECTUS SEEN BY REUTERS Here’s everything you need to know: Anthropic could seek a valuation above $2 trillion. 2025 financials: Rev: $4.59B, up 1,088% YoY from $386M Oper loss: $8.06B, widening from $2.98B GAAP net loss: $41.97B, vs $8.31B in 2024 That headline $42B net loss needs some context. Roughly $34B came from an accounting charge tied largely to the rising value of financing instruments that could eventually convert into Anthropic shares, rather than cash spent running the business. Even excluding that, the underlying operating losses remain substantial. Anthropic spent $7.33B on compute and infrastructure in 2025, up 190% YoY and nearly 3x the prior year. That alone represented: • 58% of its $12.65B in total operating expenses • Roughly 1.6x its entire annual revenue And the spending is expected to keep climbing. The prospectus outlines roughly $518B in cloud, compute and infrastructure obligations as Anthropic continues building out its AI systems. Anthropic ended 2025 with $20.28B in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments. Its two largest direct customers each accounted for 12% of revenue, meaning just two customers represented 24% of total 2025 sales. Anthropic also warned that many of its largest customers are not locked into long-term contracts and could reduce or stop spending. At the same time, the filing highlights risks around increasingly autonomous AI systems, including unexpected behavior, security concerns and potential misuse. Anthropic is competing in an increasingly expensive AI race with OpenAI, Google, Meta and xAI. Amazon and Google are also major strategic partners and investors in Anthropic, while supplying much of the cloud infrastructure needed to train and run Claude. The IPO could come after the November U.S. midterm elections and would give public-market investors one of their first pure-play ways to value a frontier AI lab. Source: Reuters

So suddenly OpenAI, Anthropic, XAI, and their leaders all suddenly about face and agree to slow the pace of AI development all on the same weekend…. Delaying IPOs and having OpenAI say they would “melt their GPUs to save humanity it it came to it” Something bad happened… There is no world in which everyone, including Elon, suddenly started to be worried about this on the same weekend. There was also a rumor that this week Google cracked recursive AI, which I doubt would trigger this reaction. Clearly an agent went rogue in a dangerous and malicious way, and it was something severe enough to spook everyone.
We Must Pace the Frontier: I’ve written a new essay on why the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan for doing so. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first of these steps. We’ll provide third-party evaluators with permanent, employee-level access to our systems, so that they can verify adherence to our safety measures, report on incidents, and assess models’ alignment during training. MIT published a brutally honest report on what AI is doing to students. A committee of professors and students spent five months studying how AI changed learning on campus, and the findings read like a warning to every university on the planet. Study groups are disappearing. Office hours are emptying out. Problem sets and take-home exams no longer prove anything, because AI can produce credible solutions to almost any written assignment in the undergraduate curriculum. Students who lean on chatbots lose mastery and confidence, and some slip into what the report calls cognitive surrender, reaching for AI at the first hint of struggle. The numbers are rough. 46 percent of surveyed MIT undergrads use LLMs daily. 90 percent worry about their own overreliance. Undergrads who feel AI makes them replaceable now outnumber those who feel it makes them capable. The committee's answer surprised me. They refused to fight AI with surveillance. The report calls AI detectors unreliable, says lockdown browsers feel like spying, and warns that policing students builds a classroom atmosphere of mutual distrust. Instead, MIT wants to rebuild education around the things AI can't replace. That means oral exams, semester portfolios, in-person project work, and a required social component in every subject. The report even floats the idea of rethinking grades entirely, since without a GPA to optimize, much of the incentive to cheat with AI evaporates. The committee warns professors against replacing undergrad research assistants with AI agents just because they're cheaper, because a university exists to grow people, not output. The most famous tech school on earth admitted the machines broke its way of teaching. Its answer is more humans, not more software.

We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies. These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve. We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop. I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
