She really tried the “I thought the $1,000 iPad was FREE” defense.
Police responded to a Target in Boynton Beach, Florida, after loss prevention said a woman removed an iPad from its security tether, concealed it inside a bag and walked past checkout without paying.
An officer caught up with her outside.
Her explanation?
She claimed she thought the iPad was free because of a sign in the store.
Then, once she realized this wasn't going away, she repeatedly offered to just give it back and asked the officer to hurry because she needed to pick up her daughter.
According to loss prevention, surveillance showed two people messing with secured merchandise in electronics before the iPad was taken. The other person left the area when employees intervened.
And Florida wasn't exactly the best place for a $1,000 “misunderstanding.”
Property that's valued between $750 and $5,000 can qualify as third-degree grand theft under Florida law.
Returning the merchandise after getting stopped doesn't magically rewind everything that happened before it.
1998 just kicked the door back open.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is reportedly outselling GTA 6 by nearly 6-to-1 in Amazon U.S. physical preorders right now.

For an entire generation, Ocarina of Time wasn't just another game. It was stepping into Hyrule Field for the first time. The music. Navi. Epona. The Water Temple frustration. Pulling the Master Sword and realizing the adventure had only just begun.
Now that same legend is being rebuilt for Switch 2 and going toe-to-toe with one of the most anticipated games ever made.
GTA 6 will be enormous.
But never underestimate the power of hearing those first few notes from an ocarina and suddenly being a kid again.
Some games sell on hype.
Others have had a place in your heart for nearly 30 years.
