If you use Gmail, you need to read this.
Google’s AI, Gemini, can read your emails, attachments, bank statements, etc.
For many, this feature was switched on without consent.
Here's how to turn it off 🧵

you are not a free individual if someone can take away your AI access
local models are the way.
few understand.

Replying to @MsMelChen
The solution is to rally around open source.
That's the only way to compete with a superpower technology network effect if you are not a superpower yourself. And it's the only way to bring the rest of the world along on the same team as you.
Open source.

Tibetan monks spend days constructing sand mandalas - intricate, geometrically precise, extraordinarily beautiful.
Colored sand arranged grain by grain into sacred geometry.
And then, when they're finished, they destroy them.
Impermanence is not tragic. It's the point.
The mandala was never meant to be forever.
Its completion is the moment of its release.
Every transaction has this quality.
It is complete in itself.
Real, verifiable, final.
And then: done.

Every cell of my being is meant to be against what Arbitrum just did.
Yet I understand their decision,
People getting their money back matters more than convictions that would allow unc Kim to walk away with a payday.

i'm not building it to win
i'm not building it to make money
i'm not building it to be the best
i'm building it to help myself, and then you and everyone else
there's nothing else worth building

4 years. solo. no one watching
you open steam and you already know - you already know it's probably nothing. just another week. just another zero
but this time there's a number. $250k
and you just... break
not because of the money. because for 4 years you thought maybe you were just wasting your time. maybe no one cared. maybe it was all for nothing
and then a number tells you: someone cared
cakez (the dev) posted a video of himself crying. genuine tears. and he said: "i feel like i really don't deserve this"
i watched it and felt something
not jealous. just... seen
if you're building something alone right now and it feels stupid and pointless - this is for you

This story is actually insane:
• dude drops $2000 on a DJI robot vacuum like a lunatic
• refuses to use the normal app like a peasant
• Sammy Azdoufal fires up Claude to crack the API so he can drive it with an xbox controller
• Claude delivers the goods
• pulls an auth token from their servers, connects successfully
• except the system thinks he controls 7000 vacuums
• checks again
• yep, seven thousand
• DJI built authentication with zero device ownership verification
• any valid token works for any unit on the planet
• Sammy now has eyes inside homes across 24 countries
• live vacuum camera feeds everywhere
• full floor plans from the mapping data
• some guy in germany eating cereal at 3am, unaware his roomba is snitching
• one API call away from being the most informed burglar in history
• all he wanted was to steer his vacuum with a joystick
• does the right thing and reports it
• DJI fixes it in two days
• back to normal life with his stupidly expensive floor cleaner
• IoT companies stay undefeated at shipping garbage security

Never fight your nature.
If you were the type of kid who stayed up til 3am playing video games, allow yourself to build your online business into the late hours of the night without guilt or pressure from performance-optimizer types.
If you were always the student who finished the presentation 30 minutes before class, allow yourself to hit a buzzer-beater when making a presentation for work.
If you grew up loving being outside all day, every day, engineer your work and lifestyle so that you can do the same as an adult.
The truth is, you and you alone know the way to unlock your optimal performance.
You'll find the way back to your natural expression by uncovering what you were doing naturally in childhood.

Did you ever stop to ask yourself if it was possible to inject prediction markets directly into the Old School Runescape game client?
Because I did.
@cademarket is going to be literally everywhere.

a nice bit of internet history:
in the late 80s, the US Postal Service was working on a system to automatically digitize handwritten forms, so collated ~300,000 low-res images of handwritten letters and numbers to train an early neural net (LeCunn's 1989 zip-code recognizer, built on LeNet-1).
in the 90s, that USPS data got added into handwriting databases and NIST became the ML hello world benchmark for the next 20 years
a cleaned-up variant (MNIST) that also had ambiguous 28px pictograms is one of the most historically significant datasets in early AI, still expanded on up to 2015
for fun and preservation, i've been feeding MNIST to Load S3 over the weekend and made a data pool tracking its upload:
data.load.network/pool/mnist
the cool thing about storing large datasets on Load S3 is that they can be anchored to Arweave as-is, by anyone, without changing metadata or even ID. the pools feature on the new Load S3 explorer will soon make it easy for anyone to connect and sponsor the permanence of interesting datasets, like MNIST (internet archaeology reasons), or modern datasets from OpenAI et al
