Racial capitalism is the key driver of the racial wealth gap (bc that’s what it is intended to do). Banking is just one capitalist system that enables it.
Improving “access” to capitalism won’t end racial inequality. Capitalism must be destroyed.
Unequal access to the financial and banking system is one of the key drivers of the racial wealth gap here in Atlanta and across the country.
Our latest post builds on a newly-published paper to examine the geographies of banking across the Atlanta metro

It feels like every week there’s a new food hall concept being opened or announced somewhere across metro Atlanta.
But who are these food halls actually for? And how can mapping them help us find an answer?

Atlanta has one of the worst adoption rates for rooftop solar of any major US city ☀️☹️
Where is Atlanta's residential rooftop solar capacity and how has it changed over time? And why does it matter?

Great mapping work by @mappingATL showing that the majority of those invested in building Cop City live far away from the communities being made even more vulnerable to climate impacts caused by the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest.
For the last few months, the mayor & others have tried to paint the movement to #StopCopCity as a bunch of outside agitators
But the real outsiders are the people pushing this project on us in the first place, many of whom don't live in Atlanta at all

Map 1: the Atlanta neighborhoods adjacent to where they cut down 85+ acres of forest to build Cop City (91st, 94th & 96th percentile of climate vulnerability)
Map 2: Buckhead—where large % of APF donors & politicians pushing Cop City live (24th percentile).

NEW: The nation's most comprehensive climate risk tool was released today. It outlines 184 climate-related risks in 70,000 U.S. communities.
You should plug in your address and see what risks, and gaps, your home is facing.

I-20 in Atlanta was intentionally routed to serve as a “boundary between the white and Negro communities,” in the words of Mayor Hartsfield. Construction displaced an est. 7,500 people in 2,200 homes. Despite making up 37% of Atl's pop. in '60, 60% of those displaced were Black.

After years of community mobilization against Cop City, Atlanta City Council has failed our communities again. Now, Atlantans are taking our power back. The Vote to Stop Cop City coalition is organizing to put a referendum on the ballot this November. copcityvote.com

ALT Black text on tan backgroun that says Join us to stop Cop City, with Cop City crossed through with a green line. Underneath in smaller font it says, We've come together to launch a ballot referendum to let the people of Atlanta decide. We're taking our power back to make sure our people can have their voices heard. On the bottom right in smaller font is the campaign logo that says Vote to Stop Cop City, with Cop City crossed through with a green line.

A geographer at Georgia State University decided to look into the where supporters of the police training facility better known as “Cop City” are located and found very few live near the proposed site, with many located outside of Atlanta.

More Senior Leadership members of the Atlanta Police Foundation live 50+ miles OUTSIDE OF ATLANTA than live in majority-Black areas.
Do not let these clowns use the phrase "outside agitators" ever again.

Replying to @defendATLforest @kyjts
The APF, Atlanta Committee for Progress, and Buckhead Coalition are rich people who do not live in majority-Black areas, but do use Black Community Task Force members and elected officials to represent their ambitions.

Researcher @kyjts has published an incredible expose on Cop City, proving that its supporters and advocates are wealthier, whiter, and live farther away from the Weelaunee Forest than city officials want you to believe. ESSENTIAL READING: mappingatlanta.org/2023/05/3…

Was so awestruck by the way this reporting took what I was seeing and condensed it into these powerful visuals and descriptions. I feel honored that some of my threads exposing the South River taskforce were cited— grateful they could serve to support this larger AMAZING effort.
